Default Vacuum problem on 74 - need help

On my 74 L82, I have found a vacuum line that runs to a vacuum cannister located in the left front fender well under the wiper reservoir. The tube runs behind the coil and then bends as though it should be attached to the firewall on the passenger side of the distributor. However, I can't find any place that looks like it would fit. I have searched every page of the assembly manual and the shop manual and find no reference to this cannister. The lights and wipers work OK and I haven't noticed any thing not working. Does anyone have any idea? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That cannister is part of the original pollution control (charcoal) it should i believe hook up to a vacuum on your carb :auto:

This is called the Evaporation Control System. If you have the 1974 Chevy Service Manual it is described in chapter 8 - section 13. One line goes to the gas tank and the other goes to the carb.

What Carb setup do you have ????

Two sources of info.

1. The Forum FAQ has a diagram of a Q-Jet carb.
2. Dr. Rebuild has diagrams of each year in their catalog.

The line should go to the port on the lower side drives side.
