Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit 72

Hey Guys:
Where is the sending unit mounted? I don't currently have one for my 72, and wondered where and how it's connected to the gage. Only thing I know is that there is an oil line sticking out from behind the firewall, and runs into the engine comprtmnt. Mechanical unit...right????

On my BB, there is no "Sending Unit". The oil tube coming out of the firewall goes to a brass tube, wich connects to a 90 degree brass fitting which screws into the block above the oil filter. The other end of the tube connects directly to the gauge.

Not sure on a small block, but can't imagine a big difference.

Yes on the 72 it is a mechanical gauge. Therefore there is no sending unit. Just a hollow line that runs from the gauge to the block. The intended position on the block is just behind the intake manifold next to the distributor.

So that's what that plugged hole is for!!! I noticed a pipe plug behind the distributor....Damn Bubba!!
Thanks Sray & Jvette
Hey Mike: Your car is my 72's big brother. Although it was originally a BB, it now lives it's life as a SB Mille Miligna 4-speed Coupe.

The sending unit on my 81 is right behind the carb. Kind of in between the carb and the firewall, but on the intake manifold.

Until 75, all C3 came with mechanical op gage ... tubing runs from fitting at top of block behind intake ... to gage ... also until 75 all C3 came with mechanical cable-driven tach. Beginning w/1975 model year, all C3 came w/ electrical op gage & electronic tach coupled w/HEI distributor.
