Buying a new Carb, Which one to get???? Holley or Demon
i am buying a new carb to replace my holley 6210 (q-jet replacment). I am looking at either a demon or a holley street avenger. I am running a mild 406CI SB and i need a good carb. I am personally leaning towards a demon because they look cool. I have used a holley all my life and i am a mechanic so I can tune a carb so "user friendlyness" isn't so much a concern. Which is the best carb for me Thanks

For some reason I am partial to Holley carburetors. I don't have anything against Demon carburetors but I just like the Holley better. Holley has a nice variety of carburetors to choose from. For your application I could see useing a Double Pumper, Holley HP or a Dominator. There is a 750 Dominator available. I know that if my motor needed 1000cfm +....I would be running a Holley Dominator. I've honestly thought about switching to a Holley HP for the time being.
Either way, you really can't go wrong. I just like the history behind the Holley carburetors. It's also kind of neat whenever someone asks what size carburetor you are running and you repy "it's a Holley 850 Double Pumper." :)

Let me tell you my experience with my new Demon 650...I was running an Edelbrock 500cfm (way too small, I know). Anyway, the car ran OK but didn't have the get up and go that it should so I talked with lots of folks and ended up buying the Demon. I bolted it on and started the car...Holy Cow, what a difference! I took it down the road and smiled ear to ear as my automatic left nice long black marks on the street then chirped the tires again going into second gear!
In short...I love my Demon!

I went with a Holley 850 DP a coupla months ago. I've been using Holleys since I was knee-high to a ralley wheel and saw no reason to change now.

Go with the Demon, and you will not be disappointed. I had a 625 Road demon on my old motor, and now have a 650 DP speed demon on the ZZ4. It rocks!

I put a 670 Holley Avenger on my ZZ4 last year. It run Ok.
Does anybody have actual experience documenting that a comparable size Demon will improve the performance?

By those number it doesn't seem to be worth it to gain 2 or 3 HP and possibly sacrifice torque.

Nice selection guide. I don't believe I have seen that before. I have a 650 with mechanical secondaries on my 350, but I think a 750 would be better for the 406. Is the car a manual transmission or automatic? Also, what are the gears? If it's a manual and has medium to low gearing, a mechanical secondary carb would work well, but if it's automatic and/or has high gearing, I would probably stick with a vacuum secondary style. I really like my Demon...it's a nice carb.

I have had excellent performance from Demons.
Put a Speed Demon 650 mechanical secondary on my '74 Corvette last year, WOW, what a difference over the old Qjet. The QJet had been "professionally" rebuilt and recalibrated, but I felt the car should be faster. The Demon delivered.
Yesterday I put a Speed Demon 750 vacuum secondary on my '76 Suburban 454. I had rebuilt the original QJet a couple years ago, and it ran pretty well. That one started acting funny, so I put the QJet from the '74 on it, and it had a HUGE stumble off idle and wasn't keeping up at the higher RPMs. Bolted on the Speed Demon, put the heaviest secondary spring in, and shaved 2 seconds off my 0-60 time according to my GTech Competition Pro.
Now, if I bolted on a Holley I'm sure it would have improved, maybe just as much, but I am very happy with the Demon carbs I have.
