I was very impressed with the response to my first post, its nice to know that you are not alone with these wonderful cars. As soon as my 69 gets out of the bodyshop, (I,m having the whole car repainted) I will post some pcitures. The original 350 was a mess, so I replaced that about 10 months ago with one of those 350's from the enginefactory with all the nice Edelbrock parts etc. It ran ok, but it always seemed that the 750cfm carb was just too big for the engine. After talking with Edelbrock tech people, they have already spoken to the people at the enginefactory and no longer recommend that carb for the motor. After going over my specs he recommends the 600cfm with the manual choke. He claims that I'll get better throttle response and will stop smelling like a gas tank after drivig the car. The car has the low rise manifold to fit under the hood with a speed-pro 3000 cam, Vortec L31 heads, and small tube headers. Another friend of mine says that holley is the way to go.
The current carb is just dumping gas into the engine and as per Edelbrock is going back to them to be checked out. Anyone out there have any suggestions or similiar eperiences, let me know .

I have the 600 Edelbrock with a manual choke and I like it. It's much better than the old, out of tune, float sticking, gotta rebuild it every year... Holley that was on there before. I've played around a little bit with the metering rods and jets and have it running pretty well.

I've recommended this carb before and will continue to do so. There are people who swear by Holley or Demon, but for the price and performance, I like the Edelbrock.

I - too - love my maintenance free Edelbrock 600 (auto choke).
They do not flow as well (CFM) as a Holley or Demon, but unless you
need that competitive advantage.

Still like my #1902 Q-jet.Good fuel milage and better preformance than the 3310 Holley I tried except at very high rpm's.This is on a 383 and I have zero complaints after 2 years.

For easy starting and LOW maintance go w/ the Edlebrock. For all out performance go with the Holley Or Demon.

Whatever the case may be, that carb is too big. People get confused because they pull a 750-cfm QJet off the car, so it seems logical to replace it with a 750-cfm Edelbrock, Holley, Demon, etc. But it's actually an "apples to oranges" comparison.

The Q-Jet being a spread bore has smaller primaries and larger secondaries than the others, which makes it's fuel metering more efficient at low speeds.

But before you go all crazy and switch from the 750, check your fuel pressure. If more than 6 psi, dial that down to 6 or less and re-evalute whats happening. Edelbrocks push fuel past the needles at higher psi. Holley's and Demon's are more forgiving in that respect. You might also check the throtle blade position and insure that the transfer slot is not fully exposed at idle, and low rpm street driving.

Overall, dollar for dollar, the Edelbrock is a fine carb. I'm using the 1406 600 cfm on mine.

I've Got the Edelbrock 1406 (600 CFM, Electric Choke, Vac. Second.) and I Love it. It's low maintenence, was cheap, comes with a detailed manual, and works just fine for a milder engine. Just my two cents.

I also have an edelbrock 600cfm carb I havent put it on my engine yet because I do not know what size fitting that goes to the back of the carb so I can run a line to my brake booster. Does anyone know what size and type (is it metal?) of fitting I need to achieve this? Please help.

Edelbrocks are basically Carters. They will work fine. It`s just don`t over carb the engine. A 600 is for the smaller engines and I would recomend an electric choke. :cheers:
