Have Fun. Let's Debate. 1970 vrs 1979
These are two local cars. They are both very clean and with moderate and documentable mileage, i.e. ~40,000-60,000 miles. Both have 9.5/10 paint and interiors. The 1970 is NOM 300hp. The 1979 is an L-82 with matching numbers. Both have the running gear and exhaust rebuilt from end-to-end. Both are A/T. The frames are solid. Assuming the same selling price, which one would you buy?

the 1970 no question!!! I don't really care much for any corvette made after 74. The hatchback is just a little much.

If it was something I planned on driving and enjoing the I would take the 79. I have owned both a 71 and a 79 and the 79 is a lot more comfortable to drive. My 71 with the no-support seats, thin rim sterring wheel and much harsher suspension made my really think if I wanted to drive it more than 100 miles at a time. My 79 is much more comfortable and I don't feel fatigued driving it 5-6 hours at a clip.
I know all of these thing could be changed on the 70 but that is not the question asked.
If it was strictly for investment I would take the 70 as I would think it would appriciate quicker than the 79.

Good point. Particularly relevant to me as I have a lower back problem. On investment I do agree.

The 70 will be a better investment but will need $2000 spent on it to get it to handle and feel as good on the road as the 79.
The red seats are a bit much though. I think I'll stick to my black interior!
Either way your still in a C3 and thats the best place to be!

Personally, I would buy the '70 if it were to be my only Vette. I would consider the '79 as a second Vette.

Well, if the 70 doesn't have T/T, I'd have to go with the 79. My legs won't go under the non-tilt wheels that easy.
To be honest, I really prefer the looks of a 69 to 70-72. And prefer 78-79 over them as well, especially with the spoilers.
I love all vettes... but very picky for myself.

Personally I'd like the chance to drive two different cars in identical condition from two different decades and see if there is a real handling difference. I don't doubt that the 79 has better seats. :D

Without question, the '70. Have never cared for the lines of the bubble backs. Plus, no cats and true dual exhaust in '70.

I think the 79' has numerous advantages as far as the interior goes, and is in general a more "user friendly" than the 70'. No question that the 70' would win out when it comes to resale value.
