Default First post 1969 Vette

Hello,
I've had a 1969 coupe, 350, auto for about a year now. I purchased the car from a person I now refer to as "Mr. Crazyglue", it seems that if he didn't have the machine screw and a wood screw would not work, then just break out the crazy glue to hold the part on. I've slowly been un-hacking his work, but although I've been able to do some of the work myself, my space and time is limited. The problem I have run into is finding a mechanic who is willing to help with the car in a timely fashion. I've had the car sit for weeks at one place while he had to deal with this so-called regular customers. Why I can't be a regular customer is beyond me. I'm located in the New York, Westchester county area if anyone knows of someone who enjoys working on these older cars, please let me know.

Thanks

Welcome - and greetings from the north.

I can't help you with a local mechanic, but there are several folks in NY
that post, and (I'm sure) many more lurking.

You know, we can always 'fix' your car for you. The hitch is that you
have to do all the actual labor. Even when bringing her 'in' for service,
it's a good idea to run the problem by the forum - and get a heads-up on what to expect.

Good luck. :seeya

You just quoted my exact problem...I told that guy to take a hike and i went to another place that has worked out better but still not great. The only solution is to become independently wealthy, quit your job and learn to work on it yourself...that's my plan anyway.

Anyway, welcome aboard...we'd love to see your car! :yesnod:

t69man,
welcome
i think the best mechanic in your are is you. there are some hard things to fix on the car but most if not all can be done by you. just post what you plan to do next and several people will jump in and tell you how to do it and what to watch out for.
welcome,
Mike

t69man,
I live in White Plains, not too far from you and I have a great mechanic for you if you are willing to come up this way.
Call Tom at the Gedney Gulf Station, its on Mamaroneck Ave by the Gedney Post Office. The place might not be the prettiest (I worry that a really clean, always painted place just doesnt have enuff customers to keep them otherwise busy!) but they are pretty fast, reasonable and there into older cars.
I take my 69 there, my buddy takes his 68 there and we all rate him....comes in handy having a buddy come inspection time aswell.

cheers
Nick

Welcome. :seeya

You should call the police so they can get fingerprints to confirm that it was "Bubba" who vandalized your vette. There have been many sightings in your area recently and I think we are closing in on him. Once the CIA finds Osama then they can divert more manpower towards finding Bubba. I am glad you found the corvette forums, or as its more commonly known as "The Bubba Support Group" (TBSG). If you need a shoulder to cry on, or vette info, we are here for you.

Welcome. I feel your pain. I too have a 69, but when Bubba owned it , he didn't have to resort to crazy glue. He had access to an entire hardware store full of screws. He also had access to an entire inventory of screw drives. When I started working on the interior of my car I needed the following screw drivers: slotted, #1 Philips, #2 philips, three different size torx drives and two square drives.

Welcome t69man,
Most of us here on the Forum seem to do our own work on our cars. I for one, do not let anyone else touch my car.
You'll get a very good education here, and even if you've never worked on your cars in the past, you will probably work on it in the future.
