Default Finally, Bottom paint shot on my two tone 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition vette

We finally shot the Charcoal gray onto my 1978 SA vette last night....For the last year I have had the body off repairing it, prepping it and restoring all the componets that go with it. The vette has been apart going on 3 years this July. In some of the pics, if you look closely you can see where we have laid the pinstriping out. I am painting on the decal kit so it will be under the clearcoat..Should look awesome...Hopefully, I will have the upper pinstripes laid out soon and shoot the Silver up top. I am using all PPG products in the original paint code scheme for the car.

Looking good. Everyone seems to be painting right now. I guess I should be persuing mine a little harder. Right now the weather is breaking and I just want to go for another drive. Not put it back out of action again.

Paint looks great. Have several questions:

1. Are you leaving the doors open to enable painting door sills and top
of the doors? If so, are you opening and partially closing the door as
you first paint the door sill and then the outside of the door?

2. Are you using a fresh air breathing set up? If so what is the type and
cost?

Thanks

Looks great! :yesnod:

Is the charcoal a metallic?? If so what's the color code? Is the silver a metallic too?

My '70 was painted in the SA scheme and was wondering if Bubba used the corresponding '78 SA codes. I need to paint my L-88 hood to continue the charcoal stripe.

Mark, I have left the door adjared with a stick because I have painted the top on the door sill and rocker panel area. The door jams are painted silver already but to keep it from showing silver when the door is closed in the crack, I have painted the outer lip of the door jam gray up to the transfer point to blend in with the 2 tone theme.

Mike is doing the painting,I am labor and he does use a fresh air system. I will ask him what type and cost for you when I go back over. Here is a pic of the gray on top of the silver in the door jam area.

1970 Stingray,
Yes..the paints are metallic...I used the 13U/07M but I will get you the PPG codes for it.

Hey Nomad,
I remember when you got started on this. The car looks awesome. I painted my two-tone last July. People who know what they're looking at stop all the time and say..."Hey what happened to the decals?" You won't be disappointed. The clear coat over paint really make every detail stand out. Good Luck with the rest of it. The car looks great so far. Silver Anniversaries forever!!!

Looks absolutely fantastic! We're still going head to head, what do you reckon which one finishes first. I took mine apart same time as you... Mine should be painted by the end of March.
