Hurst Shifter for TH350...anyone have one ????
I am looking at putting in the V-Matic Hurst Shifter (#383 8531) in the Corvette. The part # is specific to '77-'81 TH350 Corvettes but I wonder if I have to make any console adjustments for it.
Does anyone have any experience with them? Does anyone have any pics???
Please advise me.

Superfast-the previous owner of my car put the exact shifter in. Sorry, I don't have any pics (some help I am). In my opinion, he butchered the job, and it does not look good. Furthermore, I feel that the shifter is too "Big" for such a small cockpit. However, because I didn't feel like changing the shifter, I cut back on the rubber boot (so it doesn't look so gangly) to expose more metal on the shifter handle, and this takes care of the visual problem. As for the shifting  No problem there. Just my two cents. Good luck with your choice

Does the base fit in present spaces in the console? Or did he have to cut and fit? I do not want to butcher - can you explain further?
How's the shifting? I have a beefed up TH350 with a strong shift kit - I want to maximize what I can with an auto and (IMHO) make it look hot.

You think so? I saw it at Canadian Tire today and almost bought it on the spot but wondered how it would fit.

Damn you are just too enamoured with me Flav, so much so that you have to have my last name prominent in your vette, and when you miss a shift point I can hear you muttering my first 2 initials as well. :lolg:

That was pretty clever for an old guy.... :lolg:
Hey Mike, did I remember right - don't you have a Hurst in your car?

I think I once saw a guy had installed one of those 3-stick, HURST-brand 'Lightning Rods' shifters in a C3, but I'm not sure if I saw it 'here', or somewhere else. I can't remember if it fit 'inside' the console, or 'on-top'. IMHO, it looked almost 'RICER'. I wish that HURST had a model-specific "DAUL-GATE II", like they made for '70-'81 F-bodies. It fit perfectly in the console, had a 'small-case letter 'h' pattern', and has with-stood 22+ years of abuse; all I've EVER had go wrong is a cotter pin shear off at the cable. With a HURST 'T-handle', it looks BOSS, too! You think ANYBODY makes a shifter for 700R4 in the '82's?  :cry :nonod: :lolg:
