Aww... Shucks! Just got bad news from the machine shop...
I pulled my engine (with the help of a couple of forum members :) ) a few months ago. I just got it to the machine shop last week. The guy called me a little while ago to inform me I do not have what I thought I had. The used car salesman that sold me the car told me it was a "slightly" hyped up stock 1981 corvette engine. Turns out I have a nice little Stroker 383!!
Too bad I have to put a stinking RV cam in it so it'll pass emissions! :mad

:nopity
Well, If you are that worried about passing emissions then I will trade you my stock 350 for your 383. :D

No, I'm definitely happy with the news! It just makes me mad every time I think about having to pass the emissions test because I bought my car with no emissions on it. Having a nicer motor just makes me dwell on it even more.
My goodness... I would NEVER think about having a "more expensive" emissions test done. Never. Not even if you emailed me a place where that could happen. No way! :iagree:

Sounds like you need a 2 piece timing cover and roller lifters with the horizantal bar. :D

I wonder if you went to EFI if you could run a heathly cam and pass emissions  . Do you need to pass both a visual & sniffer or will they go with just the sniffer ?
BTW, nice find ! If only we could all be so lucky

Smoked Tires:
First of all let me say you have one awesome-looking ride!! :yesnod:
Second, I have to pass both a visual and sniffer test. However, I think I could possibly get away with a EFI setup. I would LOVE to do that... but, I can't even pull a 'normal' engine without help. If anybody can point me to a user-friendly article on converting a C3 to EFI, I'd definitely give it a try!! :steering:

Stick with a cam below the 220 duration range and you should be more than fine for the test. Even in the 220's would be good on a VERY heatlhy engine.
Try Comp XE256... the XE262 MIGHT do all right. CS260 and CS268 are certified.
Also, an XR264 roller would be good if you were willing to pay the price. It seems rather mild, I'm fairly certain it would get by sniffer without a hitch. If it doesn't, you can go down to an XR258 easily enough, as the roller cams do not require removal of the lifters. (Though you will have to yank the rad and whatnot...)

*edit* Throw in a nice pair of heads like AFR195s and you'll be ready to shatter your rear end!
