Where to hook up the oil pressure cutout switch ?
Hi
I bought a SUMMIT 7 PSI oil pressure cutout switch for my 68 big block.
As you all know, this car only has the mechanical oil pressure gauge with no warn light. It is pure chance to see a oil pressure loss early enough.
That's why I wanted to cut the ignition .
Now, I tried to remove the bronze fitting near the oil filter where the oil sense line connects to, to install a T-fitting. But this bronze fitting is too tight. I'm afraigt to shear it off.
Where else can I install this oil pressure switch ?
Mid block drivers side just above the oil pan is an other blocked off port.
Is this OK ?
Thanks Gunther :seeya

Re: Where to hook up the oil pressure cutout switch ? (WESCH)
I have bought one from Summit and I have asked myself the question too.
Will you install the electricity as instruction? I have thought of braking the low voltage signal between distributor point and MSD box. Looks like the easiest way for me.
Hopefully someone has some ideas... :lurk:

There is also a port on the block behind the intake manifold.
I bought this switch for my elect fuel pump. I decided I'm not going to use the terminal to the (-) of the ignition. I don't want to have to crank up 7psi of oil pressure before the car fires up.

Re: Where to hook up the oil pressure cutout switch ? (BeaterShark)
Hi BeaterShark
Where exactly is this port ( behind the intake manifold ? ).
Hi Lasse
Yes, This wire sounds good.
Also have a shortening wire available in your car in case this switch makes problems.
Fuel pump is a good idea , but it's very difficult to switch off the original mechanical pump with this 7 PSI switch. :D
If the cranking takes too long, you can always install a shortening circuit to be activated till the engine is running. I run a high volume oil pump and pressure build up is instant. ( hopefully )
Thanks Gunther

Thanks paul79
OK, let me see if I got this pic right. It shows the back side of the block just above the clutch with the intake manifold removed, right ?
My big block has absolutely no port there. :mad
There is a port just above the oil filter. Could that be used ?
The pic shows this port and also the one , where the oil pressure sense line is taken off. Again, I'm afraight to shear this bronze fitting off.
Thanks Gunther
