C5 drivetain in an 80?
I came across a totalled 2000, the owner wants 3k for the drivetrain, which is cherry. Is it worth the headaches to try and put it in my 80?

I don't think Jeff did the entire drive train, just the engine. To my knowledge, installing the rear end mounted transmission would be very difficult to impossible. I was planning on installing an LS1 in my 80 one day, I still may, but with 4L60E or 4l80E. Should get the same bang for alot less trouble.
Rich, if I were you I would jump on that deal, especially if you are confident the stuff is good. You could sell the drive tube, tranny and rear end for $3k or more. IMO a slightly used LS1 is well worth $3k.

Not only are you going to have clearance issues with the tranny in the back, but since the C5's have a longer wheelbase the torque tube will need to be shortened. I don't know if you have ever seen one, but it looks like a pain in the butt to mess with.
But I would say go for it.

It'd be much easier to put a TA/Camaro engine/trans in there than the c5 transaxle. . . I'm still working on mine. . . Hardest part so far has been getting the driveshaft out! (still working on that)

I think the editor of Vette magazine has an ongoing project with putting an LS1 in a 76. The project has been on hold for a while, but I recall it can be done but with a lot of fabrication, cutting and welding.

That's a screamin' deal for the drivetrain. As mentioned earlier, you could double your money on this easy. As for the conversion, you better be a killer fabricator to do this. My neighbor is doing this same install on a '69 Mach 1 with Z06 running gear, and all that's left of the Ford is the body shell. Watch out for a lime green fastback, coming soon to a Norcal 'hood...

Thanks to all for the input, but the deal went bust. I guess I'd rather keep it simple anyhow. Maybe a stroker?... Hmmm. :banghead:

I understand. To be honest with you, anyone letting a C-5 drivetrain go for $3-5k is getting shafted. (excuse the pun) Parts wise it is worth much more. I have seen totaled C-5's auctioned for $5- 10k easy.
