Considering your posting in C3 about parts for C4s only, I don't know what response you will get in here.

I knew they show only c4-c5 setups but they have a custom order sheet. They will make any lenth you want. I just got a custom length DS for my Formula and it was no extra charge. Looks like between 500-600 for a set of carbon fiber half shafts. Thats cheaper than one for my formula. Just trying to share some info guys.

Since they make custom length just tell them the measurments and they will make your driveshaft for you too I'm sure. Who knows you may be able to get away with carbon fiber Ds and Hallfshafts for around 1100 bucks. That would be nice and the weight savings would be pretty big I'm sure.

Wouldn't this be one of those cases that reduced weight helps more than a 1/1 ratio bordering on exponential? Cause we are reducing rotating mass. Or would this somehow hurt because of lost momentum....in other words, as soon as you let off there is more loss rotationally and would therefore need more power to get back to where you were.
I'm assuming it would be benificial but also may just be different....like a lightweight flywheel. You don't always want a lightweight flywheel in all circumstances, do you?

thats what I was thinking....and with lower gear ratio (higher number) would it affect even more ? as ...letting off the gas=putting on the brakes !!! ??

No..this wouldn’t' be the case. I believe your talking about what is considered as "stored energy". The only time any Stored energy would have any positive effect is on a hard drag strip launch. This is why an alum. flywheel isn't really recommended on a manual car at the drag strip but highly recommended for road race applications. The stored energy of the flywheel while the rpms are up helps get the car out of the hole without bogging. Since the Driveshafts aren't rotating while the car is stationary there isn't stored energy. Any time you can lighten up rotating weight its a good thing for over all performance. There is less mass(weight) to rotate and accelerate thus you have less drive train loss. Lightening the driveshaft is Kinda like going to lighter brake rotors and would have the same kind of affect. I bet they would also custom make some alum. half shafts and driveshaft too for lighter weight and better price. With billet yokes they are pretty strong.

Very  . Now when I tear a half shaft apart I know where to go  :cry . Taking the weight off the rear is a nice change from all the heavy steel back there :yesnod: .

Carbon fiber is very very strong. The way they connect them to the yoke is what I would be concerned with. Ive seen high hoursepower manuals launching on slicks(60's in the mid 1.4s) ring the yoke off the shaft. That was on shafts from other manufacturers. From the looks of this one they use a different bonding process that should make that connection point stronger. I would call the manufacturer about this question. I would guess unless your pushing 600 rwhp and doing 6000 rpm clutch drops on slicks you will have no worries in the world. The do say that turbo mustang runs their carbon fiber shaft and it runs 7.4s so I would say they are pretty strong.

The carbon fiber half shafts are kind of expensive but worth it if you race. They also come with Billet Aluminum ends where the U-Joints go. -Dan

I feel it's got to be an advantage .. given a performance mod. what is the life duration etc .. On the site I see drive shafts made this way too? Are they are cool and good to go, how straight/matched can they be for street too?
