I could use one at the right price. Does anyone know if you can turn the mileage (kMs) back on thisw type of odometer? I have a fairly new ZZ4 with much less mileage and the artificial high mileage wouldn't look right. Thanks

Not to be a prude, but the Ministry of Transportation levies a very heavy fine for what you are suggesting. Rolling back odometers is a serious offence in Ontario. Curb-siders and shady used car dealers have been taken to criminal court. Just a thought....

I think the intent of that law was to prevent people from ripping other people off by turning back the mileage on a high mileage car.
Technically, if I had a car with 99, 975 miles and bought a brand new speedometer, I'd probably "roll it back" 25 miles instead of rolling it forward 99,975. Would that too be illegal? I think the illegal aspect is misrepresenting the car(fraud), not the act of rolling back the odometer.

I am aware of the fraudulent use and penalities but how do you go about in replacing the old speedometer?. I could photgraph the new and existing odometers together as proof of correct milleage and leave them alone. Did anyone change their speedometer/odometer before and what did you do?

Your approach seems entirely reasonable. Full disclosure of the circumstances at time of sale is the key. A vehicle's odometer readings/history are kept on record at the Ministry of Transportation as I am sure you know. That of course presumes that an owner has been honest at plate sticker renewal time.
If an odometer is replaced under warranty the factory replacement is pre-set to the accumulated mileage. Similarly, speedo/odometer rebuild firms normally require the old and ship the rebuild with the old's reading. Basically the same policy in the case of an outright exchange.
I agree with your approach.
