IMO, 255/45/17 in the front & 255/50/17 in the rear. I currently have 255/45/17 all the way around, but will step up to the 50's in the rear when the time comes :) .

Re: WHAT TIRE SIZE IS THE BEST ON 17X8" RIM (SmokedTires)
SmokedTires,
Couple of questions;
1. Are you running stock trailing arms?
2. What is the width difference between front and rear?
3. Any rubbing problems?
4. 4 inch back spacing?
5. What brand are you running and are you happy with them?
Thanks,
Wade :cheers:

I plan on going with 255/50/17 on my car when it gets out of the shop. The only problem with tires that size is only two companies make them Nitto and Bridgestone. I plan on getting the Bridgestone Pontenza RE730s.

the wheel will be 17x8" on all four, with 4.00" bs stock trailing arms
and would like them not to rub. fat as can get in the back but need to try to keep the fronts , as close to the rear in height. :D

1. Yes I currently have stock t-arms on my car.
2. Not sure on the difference other than the 255/5017 is 27" diameter & 255/45/17 is 26.1" diameter.
3. I had 255/60/15's on my car before stepping up to the 17's with no rubbing problems. My 255/45/17's have a wider tread but narrower overall width due to the shorted sidewall (less bulge) so no problems with these either.
4. Backspacing is the distance from the back of the wheel to the mounting flange. If you lay a straightedge across the back of your wheel & measure straight down to the mounting flange that banks against the rotor face you have the backspacing of your wheel. You need to know what backspacing you want when ordering new wheels ;) .
5. I bought the Bridgestone Potenza RE730's for better handling on the street along with the improved grip when autocrossing. I've been very pleased with these tires. They have good grip in the wet too so it's not a problem when driving in the rain.

I like my 255/50-17s (Bridgestone Potenza RE730s). 71roadster has some 245/45-17s that tuck up nicely and have a very flat stiff sidewall. (supposedly easier to find size too) Makes for a harsher ride but look COOL.
