Ground to the radiator in my 79
Hello,
I have a 79 L82. My temperature guage pins to the right (and isn't functional). This happened when I got my radiator replaced. I heard that there is a ground to the radiator. Does anyone know where this ground is? Thanks,
Nathaniel

Re: Ground to the radiator in my 79 (Neo Fender)
It is plugged in, I've even replaced it. The reason I ask about the ground to the radiator is 1) it stopped working after I got the radiator replaced and 2) In my research into this problem I heard that there is a ground to the radiator that might effect it. Thank-you for any and all input. The car would be near perfect if I can get this going.

Hmm. The block should act as the ground for the sender. I'm not aware of a ground on the radiator - doesn't mean there ain't one though.
You may want to check for continuity between the sender wire up to the gauge. Also, check for a short to ground while your there. In my experience, temp senders vary greatly. The first replacement I bought did not work. It would peg to the right after only about two minutes of driving.
Good Luck

Did you use teflon tape on the replacement sender. I'm not sure about temp, but I know that oil (electric) will peg when it loses ground. If the sender is in good shape and tape is not letting it ground, it pegs. just my .02

Re: Ground to the radiator in my 79 (Avette4me)
Thanks for the input all. I did not use any tape or sealent when I put the new sensor in. I might have to put another one in, at least they aren't that expensive. I have checked for contiunality and didn't find a problem there either.
Any other input would be great. Otherwise the great search will contiune.

To answer your original question. There is a ground wire on the drivers side of the radiator support on my '69. It goes up into the wiring harness near the horn relay. I noticed it when I removed the core support but didn't bother to chase the wire to find out exactly where it goes.
The wire mounted on a small hex head bolt about 1/2 way down the drivers side edge, on the front side of the support itself. Oddly enough, the new support doesn't have a hole for that bolt so I'll have to drill one when I reinstall the new support.

No problem. BTW the black ground wire there is for stock lights. The blue is for a Hella driving light circuit separate from the stock electrical system.

My temp guage did that when i put in my cd player. It turned out to be a wire at the back of the guage consol that is really sentitive because it's so old.. I just moved it around a abit then put the guage cluster back in now it works fine.
