I agree. Moly. My rings are Hastings brand. You can't beat moly for breakin and wear properties. Also, I understand that most new engines come with moly rings.

I used Moly rings whenever I built the 454 and love them. For the most part, the moly rings will seat-in during cam break-in. I gave my motor about 50 miles of cruising around and then I wound her out to 6000RPMs and started taking her to the track. You can't do that with cast rings, cast rings usually take 1,000-1,500 miles to seat-in...if you try horsing the motor before then you will most likely experience a lot of blow-by.
I would also like to point out that when people mention moly rings...not all the rings are moly. Only the top compression ring for each piston will be moly...the rest will be cast.

yes, the moly part in chrome moly is the same. Chrome moly rings are a chrome plated top ring and a grooved & moly fillled 2nd ring, just like a normal plasma moly ring.
There's no such thing as a chromemoly ring, 1 ring is chromed, the other is moly coated.
Most plasma (dura) moly rings are moly top and ductile iron 2nd, chrome moly are chrome top and moly 2nd rings. The moly is applied by plasma arc or flame spraying (it's called scouping here in the Netherlands, maybe it's a good english word, probably not)
