Painted 2nd Coat of K36 - Pictures Inside
I painted my 2nd coat of K36 Primer this weekend. For those of you following, I sanded the body with 120, shot DP48, sanded the body with 120, shot first coat of K36, sanded with 180, shot 2nd coat of K36, and am now sanding with 220 to remove the guide coat.
What you're seeing is K36 with a light guide coat. I must thank Lars for all his help in this project. I also appreciate all of your suggestions that I followed.
Cheers  Stephen

 I wish I had:
A. The room to paint mine by myself
and
B. The intestinal fortitude do attempt it!
it looks like you got it wired!

Yes, I did hang some lights. I took those pictures at 11:30PM last night. I hung 4 separate fluorescent light fixtures (2 4' 40W bulbs per fixture) in my garage on Saturday before painting on Sunday. I don't know how I got along without them.

Looking very good. Just resist the desire to stop short and keep blocking her flat and reworking all of the seams and edges. When you think your ready to paint, take another week to prep the body.
Also, did you get a fresh air system? Urethane is bad stuff to inhale.

If you can, mount some work lights low on the walls or floor. I found that this gets rid of any shadows that the overhead lights throw. Also I might have gone in for some overkill, but I finish sanded the k36 with 600 grit wet.
Good luck

Project is looking great! I'm blocking K36 right now, too, so I'm feeling your pain...! I think you're going to beat me to paint, since I'm still blocking with 120 grit, and it's too cold to shoot any more K36 right now. Keep up the great work!!

Yes, I purchased and used a Hobby-1 Fresh Air Supply System. Overall, I was somewhat satisfied because the hose is cumbersome. But I'm sure the hose is not nearly as cumbersome as the carcinogenic side effects of breathing the urethanes as well as the isocyanates in the clear coat.

I did not paint on top of bare fiberglass. I first sanded the body with 80 grit to rough up the current paint (see sig pic) and smooth it before painting a DP48 sealer. The purpose of the DP48 is to seal any questionable body work that had been done on your Corvette and to give a nice base that any body fillers will stick to nicely. After spraying the DP48, imperfections, rock chips, etc. are very visible and you can mix your fillers and spread them. Then, sand your DP48 before painting the K36 primer.
So, if you're down to the fiberglass, get some PPG DP48LF and seal the body. I'd love to help you as many forum members have helped me. I look forward to seeing your progress.
Cheers  Stephen

Ok I have one last question for you, im not used to working with fiberglass and im not sure if i should block the body down before i apply the dp48lf, or just clean it and then spray it on and then worry about blocking it after the primer/sealer has been applied-Thanks again for your help-Danny

1) Sanding will rough the body so that the DP will adhere better.
2) Sanding will make the body more flat. The earlier and better you do this the less you'll need to sand later. The idea is to flatten the panels and Corvette panels are deceptively wavy. When you Block Sand your guide coat, you're removing high spots. Therefore, if you remove them earlier, you will have less work later and will reduce the need to shoot more coats of K36 primer, guide coat, and block sand again.
Please bear in mind when I say sand, I mean with a large (16" x 2.75") board sander or paint mixing stick. I recommend you reading Lars' excellent paper found in the Exterior section of http://www.corvettefaq.com. It's entitled, "Corvette Body and Paint Repair Basics."

So what color are you gonna paint her>>>???? Orange>>??
I have the paint mixed already and it is beautiful. It's so much more bright than my sig pic. Cajun75's Vette is closest to the color I'm painting. I'm excited to see it! :D
