Shades of the Simpsons, tricked into a trip with Selma and Pattie!
Well, I'll be gone from the forum for about a week. A couple of months ago I was tricked into volunteering to escort two of my "old maid" cousins on a trip to D.C. I was hoodwinked by my Mom and Aunt, we were discussing a family vacation many years ago to D.C. I stated that I really would like to go back and really spend some time and really see the sights, but my wife had no interest in visiting museums or monuments. Just about that time my Mom and Aunt chimed in that Selma and Pattie were going and really felt they needed an escort, and how wonderful it would be for me to go along and "watch out for them."
Yeah, like an overwieght 51 year-old with artheritis is going to be any kind of protection to those two. My wife and kids think it's hilarous, they say it is like Homer Simpson going on vacation with Marge's sisters! I am going to spend a week in absolute hell!
So, all you guys pray for me while I'm gone! Hopefully I'll survive the ordeal and be back next Monday.
The only saving grace is that I have another cousin who has a pretty nice antique military vehicle collection that lives in the area, and I hope to get a chance to visit him and drive his M-3 Stewart tank! Yeah, he's nuts, but he's a lot of fun too!
I'll be back next week! Wish me luck, I'll need it.

You have my sympathy Steve. :(
I was in a similar situation a couple years back---not my relatives though. I had to go to Boston for a week long computer software training program for our hospital. They were preparing for a major upgrade to the software we have and required a 4 person implementation team to visit for training. Yep, you guessed it! Me and 3 women, none of whom were the least bit pleasant or attractive. Arrrghhh!
They'd talk about food most of the day and then when we'd go to eat they didn't chow down??? And they were'nt Twiggy-like either. They had to be sneaking out at night or stashing food in their rooms to keep up their heft. :D
It was a very long week and I couldn't wait to get home. I felt like kissing my driveway when I got back.
The only good part of the trip was that I had a week long vacation from my regular job. :D
Good Luck
Len

DC is probably not the best place to be when we start dropping bombs in Iraq. (Please no flames about not loving my country or being a kitty. I'm not guilty of either.)
Make the best of it. You'll probably have a pretty good time. I find that it's best to go into these situations with LOW expectations, and it sounds like you've got that covered.

I've lived in the DC suburbs for 12 years and I still havent been to all the tourist sites. The smithsonian museums on the mall take can take days at each one. Wear good shoes! And have fun!
