TH400 to 2004R swap question conversion u-joint??
Just installed the 2004r and found out they don't make a yoke with the correct cap to cap dimensions for the 400/200 swap. Does anybody have a part number that I can get locally, like from autozone (brute force brand)? I can get it from BTO but I really don't want to wait if I can get one locally. Thanks

Re: TH400 to 2004R swap question conversion u-joint?? (my74ls4)
I actually had a 2004R, but switched to a Th400. To solve the u-joint problem, I purchased one from federated autos. one end fit a Th350 driveshaft (same as a 2004r driveshaft) and the other fit the TH-400 yoke. I believe this is what you need. but in your case, one end would fit the TH-400 driveshaft and the other the 2004r yoke. i don't have the part # handy, but can get it for you if you want. hope this helps, or at least makes sense

when i converted from a turbo 400 to a 700r4 i got a yoke from a 79 vette with a turbo 350 worked fine.i thought 700 200 and turbo 350's were all the same yoke,and 400 and 4 speed is the same.am i right?

CMASTER if your talking about the u-joint that is what I need. Pat are you saying there is a yolk that will fit. BTO uses a driveline shop for the driveshafts and yolks. They use what they call a conversion u-joint because they don't have or cannot get the correct yolk. I used a th350 yolk for a 700r4 swap in my Z28 and had no problems. I would rather use the correct yolk but don't know if there is one.

check with jvette73 on the forum he swapped to a 200r4 and knows exactly what to get and whats available
im not sure if the 700 yoke and the 350 yoke are the same
i just found this so this is saying there the same spline 27.
T-350, 700R, 200R 27 SPL
$49.95
$59.95

Re: TH400 to 2004R swap question conversion u-joint?? (my74ls4)
Thanks for the replies guys. I found the conversion u-joint locally but I did not get it. I called Dan at JUSTCORVETTES (1-800-886-8388) and he had a few yokes from either TH350 or 700R4 corvette with the same dimensions as my driveshaft. I ordered one of these and highly recommend to anyone doing the conversion to replace the yoke to match your driveshaft u-joint. I just feel that the conversion u-joint is a weak link. I made alot of calls looking for the correct yoke and finally found one. He has a few more laying around if anybody is going to do the conversion give him a call. Maybe this will same some folks the time looking for one.

Now I am confused, are we saying that the actual u joint is of a different size between the corvette turbo 4o0 vs a corvette 350 turbo trans that fits the yoke and the drive shaft.
I know that the vette had both trannys available and that the 350 turbo yoke is the same as the 2004r 27 spline, so thats the right yoke so are the drive shafts different in the 400 turbo models vs the 350 turbo.

To the best of my knowledge,a Th350 was not used untill 76L's and the 400 was dropped. The Th400 has a wider yoke and driveshaft flange,as does a standard shift v.s. a Th350.

Re: TH400 to 2004R swap question conversion u-joint?? (my74ls4)
Pat,
I called Dan and explained my problem with the 2004r swap. BTO sent me a yoke that requires a 1310 u-joint and the drive shaft requires a 1330 u-joint. BTO could not find a yoke for the 2004r that matched the driveshaft u-joint. I had Dan measure the yoke and it should be the right yoke to match to the driveshaft. He said he pulled it out of a 700r4 so I know it will fit the 2004r. My concern was the conversion u-joint being a weak link. I belive th TH400 yoke is only good for a TH400.

Re: TH400 to 2004R swap question conversion u-joint?? (my74ls4)
This is what I know I had bought a 2004r to switch from a 400 turbo to the 2004r. i had it rebuilt with all the goodies. Now I bought a 350 turbo yoke and it fits the 2004r perfect. So thats done.
Now because I didn't have a chance to install it yet, I can't answer the following.
Is the u joint for the 350 yoke the same as the u joint on the drive shaft.
I mean the 350 yoke has the straps to hold the u joint
The corvette mags call for the same part number on the u joints up to 1981
If the 1976 used the 350 turbo then it should fit.
I also know that the 7004r came in two different splines early 27 later 30
If it is then no problem, if it isn't then either you need a different drive shaft to match the 350 turbo/2004r, or a u joint that can make the conversion, or go to a different yoke.
