Default Where to install radiator electr fan temp switch ?

Hi
Since I alsready use both head side ports up, the drivers side for the water temp switch and the pax side for the secondary supplementary radiator electric fan, where do I install the primary radiator electric fan switch now ?
I thought about 2 possibilities, once at the intake near the thermostat housing and 2nd at the cylinder head front side, visible on pic 1 left hand corner just behind the fuel line.
Pic 2 shows the pax side sensor for the secondary electric fan, which I installed to assist during traffic driving to keep this monster cool.
Which port will do best for the primary fan ?
I'm trying to get writ of the engine driven mechanical fan of my 68 big block.
Thanks Gunther

Gunther, I originally put my switch for my spal fans in the passenger head. I found with my big block the heat from the engine was turning them on and never turning off. I then moved my switch to the thermostat housing and perfect! I bought a new housing that has the hole for the switch and it seems to work well, even running the car hard it still cycles normally. My switch turns on at 195 and off at 175. I like the idea too that I am reading water exiting the block to the radiator, my monster runs nice and cool with the BeCool radiator and twin spals. I can email you a picture of my setup if you would like. Tom

Front of the intake is good. thats where the water is comming out of the head, just before it returns to the radiator. Another option is to do what I did and get a water neck that has provisions for a sensor. I got a crome water neck with O-ring seal from Jegs for my smallblock that has the bung built in to screw in a sensor. The O-ring seals excellant and has never leaked a drop. This is where my aux electric fan controll switch is located. Right above the thermostat where its reacting to the avarage temp from the water of both heads as they mix and return to the rad.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
So, the plug you can spot at the intake on pic 1 should be OK ?
It is located just beside the thin water hose that runs from the head to the pump to keep the water moving during warm up when the thermostat is still closed.
This plug should be the same location as the one you mention at the housing, or ?
Tom, yes, pls send me this pic of your setup.
Now I just have to check if I can remove this steel plug from the alu intake.
I tried to remove a water neck previously and didn't manage as I was afraight to break the alu intake.
Otherwise, I need to get such a thermostat housing with a plug.
Thanks again Gunther

Gunther, I can email you a picture of my set up when I get home from work, in about an hour. If you are worried about removing the screw in the intake I would do like 73vette said and just get the new water neck housing.

If you click on this link it should show you a picture and the part # of the thermostat housing I mentioned before. Available thru Jegs. In my opinion its the best place for a sender since its a common bottle neck of the coolant just before it returns to the rad. So anyway, are they the same for big block and small block?

Hi

How about this position ? At the radiator near the outlet where the water returns to the engine.
Would this make sense ? The fan only needs to run when the returned, already cooled water gone through the radiator is still too hot.
Of course, the sensor temp setting would need to be lower here, may be switching on at 180 F or so.
What do you think ?

Gunther
