Default LED dash bulbs

It's time to tinker again!

My dash lights have stopped working, can't see a blown fuse - any ideas.
Also I'm thinking of replacing the dash bulbs with coloured LED replacements.
Maybe blue. Has anyone used LED's in there car - how bright are they?
Have a look at this site

I haven't used em but if you get em let us know how it turns out.
Sounds like it could be a real PIA with the polarity issue

I bought the 1157 leds for taillites and wasn't impressed, took them out
got brighter filiment bulbs but can't recall the number, 1167 maybe? Didn't
save card and would have to take one out to verify. They are brighter. I liked
the image of the led lite snapping on and off as in Deville but they were
dimmer than stock. Steve

Thanks Steve. I didn't think they were worth the money! A lot of hype associated with these LED lighting systems. It all eventually falls back on a basic 1157. I have not heard of a 1167. Will check it out.

For '71 it was (may be different for 79?):

#1895 there are 6 in each guage pod so a total or 12 in the driver's side dash. There are some lower courtsey lights as well.

That's interesting.... The 1157 replacement LED's that I have are VERY bright - much brighter than a filament type (1157, etc.). I also like the instantaneous on/off.

I think the 79 has the printed circuit board dash - and takes the push-in type (like 164). These are readiuly available in LEDs - but the early style, I have not seen.

Just wanted to say, I've used blue LEDs in a computer. They are EXTREMELY bright. Not sure about the bulbs they sell but bare bulbs at 12 volts are blinding.

i agree, if your going to use blue LEDs then make sure they are positioned so they are not directly in front of the light slots.

On the blues, are they a deep blue or do they come out light?

I want them bright because they sit behind they gauges and I want the cluster to light up In a nice deep blue. Also I don't know if the dimmer on the light switch will go down low enough to dim the LEDs if needed.
I'm definately getting them from the states though - they want £14.00 per pair over here! SuperBriteLeds are only $2.49 each for the same thing.
What about Ultra violet LEDs that would make the digits and needles glow in the dark.. would look quite trick.

The next brighter standard buld is the 2057 for those that still want to use the a standard buld.

I am working on making installing the new 10 led trailer lights behind the stock tailight lens. And if that still isn't bright enough I will swap in the 40 led trailer light. But they are pretty blinding now without the vette lenses in place.

I was in Auto Zone one day and saw a 1157 led on a card and bought it. It was
5 or 6 bucks. I wanted to try one before shelling out 20. I also found them on
the internet for 14 dollars a piece about the same time. Maybe I got what I paid
for, a dim led. Steve

I think the bulbs that you are talking about are 2157's . Also, in JC Whitney, you can get 1157H (Halogens) bulbs for about $12 a set, and they ARE A LOT brighter than stock bulbs.

If you really want to turn your C3 into a head turner, you can get LED tail lights, and do it VERY reasonably. All it takes is a trip down to your nearest truckstop or truck parts store. You can get 4" round LED tail lights for a truck, and pick up the rubber grommets. After you remove your tailight assembly/backup light assembly you can insert those taillights into those rubber grommets, and insert into your tailight holes, and they fit PERFECTLY. Youll lose your backup lights, but your Vette will look neater n hell  You'll also have get the pigtails, but those are cheap. If you look for sales, you can do the whole job for under $100. :auto:
