Default Shifting Side Transmission Seal

Not sure if I correctly remembered the name of this seal. My car is back in the shop for some carb adjustments again and engine-builder says I need two of the above seals. I do have a small leak.

Are the seals expensive parts and is it time consuming to replace?

I'm not sure if this is the part you are referring to but I had to replace the seals on the shift arms of my T-10. I did this probably 10 years ago and it was a real PITA to find them. I finally found them at a car show in Atlantic City. To put them on you have to remove the shift linkage and the side cover for the tranny (drain it first) and then knock out the old seals and install the new ones. I used a small socket to drive the new seals in and it worked OK. You will need the side cover gasket to replace the cover. You can probably get a tranny gasket kit from one of the suppliers like 4-Speeds by Daryl that contain all the gaskets you need. You might also check GM Performance parts to see if they carry it now. Wish I could point you in a better direction but it's been a while since I did it. If you don't have a T-10 but have a Muncie instead I think the seals are different, more like an O ring. I think it's best to ID the tranny and then give a call to the places I said. If I remember correctly the seals I got cost under $10 at the time. Good Luck.

If you have a Muncie they should be available. I have the old seals and check for a number on them. 5 speed.com would probaly have them. You'll have to remove the side cover as vette fixer said, then they pop out and the new ones can be pressed in.
