For those of you running Dynomax headers on sbc....
what accesories will I need to buy to complete the installation? I have AC, so will I need a new bracket?
Are the gaskets that come with the headers any good? I want to buy a set of Percy's or similar soft copper gaskets, to ensure a good seal. Do I buy the oval or square port gaskets?
Is there anything else I should watch out for?
Just curious, did the addition of just headers make your car louder, with the same mufflers? (or lack of :D)
Was there a noticeable increase in power?
I'm ordering next week from Jeg's; hope to install them next weekend.
Thanks for your comments or suggestions!

Re: For those of you running Dynomax headers on sbc.... (shotgun_000)
On my 72 I needed an AC bracket since the stock bracket was attached to the passengers side manifold. I used Jegs PN 289-88304.
I did not need an alternator bracket, but I think it is needed for a 71 or earlier; not too sure about that.
Drivers side went on easy. Passengers side was another story. Had to remove the AC Compressor. Sorta a pain.
The gaskets that come with the DynoMax Headers are just paper. I used FEL-Pro 1444 and they are very heavy duty. Considered metal, but decided against it. The ports are square. I did use the gaskets for the connectors, but also welded.
Had to relocate my wires to keep them off the headers. Not sure of your year model, so maybe you will not have to do it. If you do then you will need new wires and some looms. I got mine from Jegs.
I noticed an immediate increase in power. It is quite obvious. I mean the sucker is faster!
It seems as if the better breathing really woke up the engine. Yes it is louder, but a better way to describe it is a deeper more substantial sound. I don't think louder is really the right word. Deeper and throatier! You will love it.
I also used Stage 8 Fasteners available from Jegs as well. They are a must.
BTW, I went to school about this on Alwyn678. :)

Try putting the passenger side header in from underneath. I think you'll find that it goes in much easier that way.

Re: For those of you running Dynomax headers on sbc.... (shotgun_000)
I used the Percy's gaskets and Stage 8 locking bolts. I also used the adapter for the A6 (long) AC compressor. The only problem I had was putting in the driver side. I had to remove the clutch Z bar because it goes in between the header pipes. I also had to slightly (1/16 inch) dimple the pipe that passes over the Z bar because it was touching. You will have to lose your lower ignition shielding and if you want to keep the rear shields that go up to the tophat they won't have anything to attach to at the bottom. I kept the stock spark plug wire routing and haven't had a problem so far. And yes, you will feel a noticable increase in power and the car will sound better too. If you are using a Q-jet carb with the divorced choke it will take longer for the choke to pull off because you won't be using the heat riser that the stock exhaust had. If you have an electric choke it won't make any difference. Good luck.

For the flange, use the square Percy's gasket? (#760-66012)

I used wires with 90 degree angle boots from Jegs PN 110-4041. The looms were Jegs PN 110-170056. I am sure there are better ones out there and I may upgrade the wires later.
Angle boots are the way to go. Again, I pretty much followed the info I got from Alwyn678.

Thanks, OHSIXX!
Hopefully, everything will go well with the install, and then it will be my turn to help someone who is preparing to install headers :yesnod: :steering:

With my install, I'm having a hard time coming up with a correctly bent pipe to connect from the header collector to the stock 2 1/2 tail pipes. Also number 4 cylinder, plug wire boot is touching the header pipe, it's sure to melt.

I am also a fan of Percy's soft aluminum header and collector gaskets. Copper is a tad more $$, and unless your building a high HP motor, aluminum will work fine. (so I was told by Jegs) I installed the Percy's header gasket right away, but thought I could run the Dynomax supplied paper collector gasket...HA!! After only a few hours of running, the paper gasket blew out on both sides. Lesson learned....

I have a 79 vette, with factory AC. From what I've been told, the headers will clear. If not, the compressor will get yanked :reddevil
