What happened to Vettes "B" Known???
I used to buy lots of parts from them in the past.. They had the best prices on many items...
Recently - I wanted to place an order and all the phone #'s were disconnected.. I also checked the local Yellow Pages Online and the company didn't show up... I wonder what happened to them.. They are/were located in HIRAM - Georgia... Does anybody know what happened to them??

About a year ago I had occasion to pass through Hiram and needing a set of rechromed bumpers I figured to swing by and do the exchange. I was unable to contact anyone by phone so I just dropped in. No one home. I questioned a neighbor and was told that they had moved. Nothing more. The address was in a residential neighborhood and there was no evidence of any kind of business enterprise. They were listing the best deal on the bumpers at the time. Maybe they'll resurface somewhere.

BTW - They didn't rechrome themselves.. They had a place that did it for them...

Thanks for the info. A replater in Mobile was suggested but I've yet to take the dip. Maybe this summer and I'll for sure go for the two stage at least.
Thanks.
Thanks.

... snip ... Their deal on the bumpers seemed pretty good.. However - you would only receive them single plated... If you have your bumpers re-chromed - go for double or triple plating.. It's just soo much nicer...
... snip ...
... snip ...
into a small triple chrome plating setup for home.
"Triple" chrome plating refers to the process that is applied to bare pieces -
like steel bumpers. The process is 3 steps: copper - nickel - chrome.
You can think of the 3 layers like a paint job. The copper is like primer. It
sticks to the steel much better than nickel. Very little copper is deposited.
Next comes the nickel layer. This can be done in a varying thickness, which
will determine the amount of protection that the piece has. It is the nickel
that actually seals the steel from corroding. Finally, a very thin layer of
chrome is deposited onto the nickel. This acts like a clear coat, giving a
deep lustrous shine. The chrome layer is actually porous, and without
the nickel barrier - rust would come through quickly.
The quality of the job will depend on several factors:
1 - prepping the piece to start - light scratches can be covered, but large ones must be fixed first.
2 - the thickness of nickel layer can effect the longevity of the job - plus a thick layer can be polished out to hide minor imperfections.
3 - the care taken to ensure that #1 and #2 are done well.
Someone quoting a "single" or "double" chrome plating may not be stripping the
piece down to the substrate - and thus they are trying to recycle some of the
old plating layers. This would be perfectly fine for light surface scratches,
but any pitting or rust will require all 3 steps.
