Remove a/c????
Here's the scoop. I purchased my Vette three years ago to drive (72 base 350). Got the urge to go faster...New Lt1 clone engine and LT1 hood. Got into stock appearing drag racing...Making the car a little more "stock" at the moment and my father in law is trying to talk me into pulling the a/c...If I was to do this, it would be done right and look like the car never had a/c, not just yank the compressor...Any thoughts? The car is a weekend driver, but I drove it without a/c last summer, because I never got the wiring right after changing out the engine harness. Was non- numbers matching when I purchased. It's a decent driver..It's a lot of weight to get out of the car.

I removed mine, I capped the lines directly out of the heater core and removed everything else. I plan to install them again later but I would like to bench check each part first to see what caused the system to not work. :smash: Just cap and bag everything to protect them.

I've been thinking of removing mine (it never worked anyway!), I say...if you don't use it and don't care then remove it. But, you may want to hang on to the equipment in case you change your mind in the future.

For you guys thinking of removing your A/C, maybe we can talk. I am interested in putting A/C into my car. It once had all the parts but most have been removed. Anyway, I would be willing to purchase the items you remove. Like the compressor, condensor, hoses, evaporator and the evaporator box. If you are interested then let me know.

I've got everything except the evaporator core (VIR system). The hoses and vir are new, the compressor was rebuilt and all have been prepped for R134.
I'm going with vintage air so I'm selling all of the stuff that I spent $$ on last summer.
email me if you're interested in any or all. :) myunes@massmed.org

Re: Remove a/c???? (phoenix)
In the process of removing same as we speak. Just last weekend I removed the plenum/blower assembly to gut. It would really look nice if I could construct a cover the keep the blower functional but not have all the clutter of that big box. Understand that such a cover from a non-AC car is impossible to find (if they even exist).
Anybody tried such a project? Any advice appreciated.

I've removed the AC/Heater from my car including the under dash boxes. Everything is out. The weight savings on my 1981' was 60 lbs. Yours may be a little heavier, since it is an earlier model car.

Good way to loose weight! Keep in mind though, if you are at all concerned about resale value, missing A/C is about a $2500-$3000 hit on a 68-72, so having the parts around at sale time would be a bonus...
I just got mine work real well, but it added back on the weight. Guess I'll just add more power, 'eh?
