Default Been asked before but what should I do to my '75 Coupe???? NEED HELP!

Alright guys, I am new to CF. I am an 18 year old college student and I owned my '75 for about a year now. I put more money into the car than I should have, now that I did all my research. I speant 5,800 on the purchase with the car running strong, but the body was in primered condition. I put about $600 into a tune-up, and about 3,000 into a paint job that is not great but I only paid 3,000. Right now I have about 2,000 to invest into my baby this summer. The car needs a new windshield and rear glass because there are some small chips and the top leaks (like most because of the wearing away). That is not needed right now though because the car does not see the rain. I really want to improve the speed because it is a 1975 and not the fastest of the sharks! The only thing I have really done was to put in a K&N Air filter. I need advice on what I should do with my 2,000 this summer!

Thanks!!

i'd fix the glass...

do you have emissions tests? headers and true duals would give you a nice bump in performance.

I'd fix the glass, get a good street cam (compcams 260H & 268H will work with stock springs) a good dual plane intake, and a true dual exhaust system since you are in MI like me and dont have to pass emissions. Those small changes will really impress you. See my signature to see what I have done.............GOOD LUCK :yesnod: PS: Headers can wait.....mine went on after my true duals and I really didnt notice that much of a difference....keep in touch! :D :D :D

I would fix the glass. Does the windshield frame have any rust? If so, repairing that will take some of the $2000.

There are some articles at the link below that discuss various mods, they might give you some ideas.

OK, here is my $0.02. I did all this before I got the motor rebuilt.

1) Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold - I used the 2101 but the 3701 has smog provisions.
2) Dynomax headers
3) Dual Exhaust
4) Crane Energizer 272 cam (216 @.050 if I remember correctly, CA smog legal)
5) Rejetted Q Jet mains from 72 jets/46 rods to 74/47 (Thanks Lars)
6) Recurved distributor for 34/36 mechanical advance all in by 3000 rpm and total of 52 with vacuum advance (I think those are the numbers but check Lars' article on distributor curves at http://www.corvettefaq.com)

This brought me up to about 325 HP at the crank with no internal mods. Cost about $800 total. I also put in a BeCool radiator and Spal fans to keep it running cool which cost about another $800. Also made cam access a lot easier :smash: .

I spent a lot more on the rebuild and tranny swap later but the above list was a good start. I got a little help with the cam swap but everything else was pretty easy (except getting the old rusty exhaust off). This should get you started and then you can use the extra $$$ to fix the glass.

Check whether your 75 is exempt from emissions testing. If so, the cheapest bang for the buck is changing your ignition curve (see Lars) and getting dual exhausts.

what many refer to as my Exhaust topic. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/ganeyexhaust.htm
Do ex. & Cam it.

Suggest Increase Power

i'd go with headers, dual exhaust, a new alumn intake manifold, holley carb, an alumn rad, rear gears (depending on whats in there) and a torque converter. those changes sould give you like 30+ hp and make it at least feel much faster. of course whatever you think its gonna cost initally add about 25% to that to get the actual cost. you have to conside the "while i'm at it" factor. good luck.
