Forum Member Trying to Sabotage my ebay auction!
A member of the corvetteforum decided to email the current high bidder for my auction for the '70 C3 roadster.
Here's what he wrote:
From member: dakol:
just a word to the wise - about 3 weeks ago this car was sold for
$7,500; he was bragging about this on-line. dakol@akolarch.com
Now, what bugs me is not that bidders know what I paid for it, because those people who have asked, I've told, rather that "word to the wise" implies that there's something wrong with the car. Also, I'm not sure that it's any of his business. If he thinks the car is overpriced, he doesn't have to buy it.
I'm not usually one to get angry or frustrated. It was nice of the high bidder to send me the email. I explained the whole story, including details of the previous owner's personality, lack of advertising the car and the fact the car didn't run without stalling and was -filthy- inside and out.
Should I email the guy who sent the note to the bidder or let it slide? Anyone know this character?
And again, I apologize if my previous post seemed like I was bragging. I was not trying to brag about the low purchase price, more just indicate that it might be a buyer's market.

That's called 'auction interference' and it against eBay policies. Report it to eBay. Then stop telling people what you paid for stuff. Some people get jealous over your good fortunes and try to cause problems.

I would send him an email, thanking him for informing a bidder of the past price, but that in the future you would prefer if he didn't do that again, but you do appreicate him trying to keep things honest but you were not trying to decieve anyone. Or words of that nature. Keep your temper about you though, easier to get bees with honey, then salt. :lolg: "Word to the wise" :lolg:

That stinks! Whoever dakol is should be ashamed for poking their nose where it doesn't belong. WHat you paid for it and what you sell it for are COMPLETELY unrelated, just because you got a killer deal on the car  doesn't mean it isn't worth a whole heck of a lot more! :yesnod:

Low Blow!
It's a free country, but, that was way out of line. It is none of his business what you buy or sell you vehicle for. I would certantly contact him and ask him what his problem is, but then again, it would most likely only add fuel to the fire. F.... it! contact him and speak you piece, just don't threaten him with something he can use such as an e-mail in a court of law.
Next time make it a private bidder auction, that is one very good reason E-BAY has this option, to protect you and the bidder(s) from a-holes like him. :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss :cuss

E-mail him and let Ebay know too. What you paid for the car is irrelevent to the buyer. I inherited my mother in laws 1979 Mercedes two years ago. If I sell it should the selling price reflect that I paid nothing for the car? I dont think so. What a bum this guy must be.

I couldn't resist sending an email, mostly because I didn't want him intimidating other bidders. Here it is...I tried to be firm but let him off the hook.
I'll let you know if I receive anything back from the guy.
Dear sir,
I do not appreciate you contacting bidders of an auction in which you are not involved. Ebay calls this "bidder interference" and the penalty is having your account terminated.
I have been very forthcoming to potential bidders regarding what I paid and when I purchased the car. Your email implies that there is something wrong with the car, and there isn't. I understand that I made a lucky find. Had you actually read my corvetteforum posts in context, you would understand that I wasn't bragging, rather pointing out that the northwest Corvette values had dropped significantly. I have also put hours upon hours of work into this car, making it run and look significantly better than when I bought it. I don't recall you sending an email to the high bidder of my '55 Packard noting the great deal he was getting. I had over $20,000 into that one and sold it for $5,700, so I can only assume a little jealousy on your part.
Your actions have been pointed out on corvetteforum, and it seems that your email does not sit very well at all with the members.
I will not report this to ebay this time, but if I do hear of another instance of interference, I will not hesitate to do so.
Sincerely,
Sam Barer

You might want to drop a note to a moderator since it seems to involve two forum members. They can almost certainly ID the jerk by his email address if it's the same one he's registered under. While I doubt they would share that info with another member, there may be cause for them to take action against him. Personally, I think it's cause for Banning.
