Hey there, Al. :seeya
How's the weather down there in Roswell?
Looking forward to looking at houses in your neck of the woods again.
Good question to ask. I need to replace my vert top as well. While it seems a fairly easy job, it also looks to be very time consuming. And, it looks like you need to be meticulous to make it look good.
Looking forward to the reponses.

In reality the whole thing with the tack strips replaced...these are wood/plastic inserts into a track in the steel hoops to allow staples to be applied holding the top material down...sorta mickey mouse to me...not that I have any immediate better suggestions except a long clamp bar of aluminum/steel/stainless with a ton of screws...if the screws were stainless...well it's a no sweat thing....
the job took the pro guy about 1/2 day....350 bux labor on my C4....
it's not hard enough of a job I would ever pay anyone else again to do it.... it is those tack strips and then the header liner pads...worthless, the canvass straps in the back window sides...inside...worthless...and all the rest of the crap they want to do the job 'right'.....best thing to replace when time comes will be all the rubber weather strip and those tack strips above....

I too have gotten $250 - $600 price ranges. :confused:
Al Knock priced me his "show special" install at $350!
I'm not sure I can do it myself! :eek:

Hey Big Al!!! :p::D
I had a local car shop that specializes in interior redo's and convertible tops do mine. I didn't have the time nor the inclination to fool with it so I wanted pros to handle the job. I supplied the new white top, new tack strips, new tension cables and a complete new weatherstrip package. They charged me $240 to do the job.
They did it one day but I don't know how long it actually took to do the job since I left the car with them all day while I was at work and picked it up on the way home. It turned out perfect and I'm still very satisfied with it. I had it done roughly two years ago and since the top is only up (under a car cover) when the car is garaged it still looks brand new.

My top is in horrible shape! It sounds like $250-350 is the range for installing the top, what is the average price for the top and accessories? what accessories do you need and who is the best to buy from?

I already installed 3 convertible tops on C3's.. The first one took my 6 hours.. The second and 3rd one were done in less than 3 hours...

Get the video from Ecklers and do it yourself. You will save a lot and have the satisfaction of saying you did it yourself, its not hard.

Local shop does all of our work (My dad has a classic car restoration business) and he charged me $100. I'd say the norm is $250 around here.

If I was lucky enout to own a vert...I would pat to have it done. Installing leather seat covers too. I just wouldn't want to screw it up. Are you staying with the same color white top?
