TIE ROD / REAR SPRING RUBBING (17"X9.5 ZR1)
I made a temp 2.5 wheel adapter to mount my new rims to check clearence
i removed the E brake bracket (moved) that cleared ..cool
now , for the bad stuff the spring in the rear is rubbing on the inside of the rear wheel , now this is with the car jacked up with the wheel hanging.
the temp adapter is not strong enough to put the car on the ground
could this be why it is rubbing? same go's for the front wheel
it rubs on the tie rod but this is with the wheel in the air and hanging
with the car on the ground will it clear ?
i'm testing befor i buy the wheel adapter's

Re: TIE ROD / REAR SPRING RUBBING (cruzin)
I had a set of 17 inch rims with 6 inch backspacing and I couldn't run them on the front of my 75. They hit the upper ball joint. On the back I had to shorten the spring, no big deal but still the spring must come out to cut off one end then redrill a new hole.

Ok the 275/40/17 you can only run on the rear. Your spring has to be shortened 1". I have them in fiberglass or steel. With the front you can only run a 235/40/17. The 275's are just to wide and you can't run them on any C-3 vette. If you want more info you can contact Art. He's the suspension guru for Van Steel. Thanks - Dan 800-418-5397

Re: TIE ROD / REAR SPRING RUBBING (Van Steel)
I am running 275/40/17's all the way around my vette which is a stock bodied 1969 without any problems. I have 2.5 inch adaptors and I had to cut the parking brake bracket off of the TA, but other than that, I have done no mods and have had no problems. I have 460" front springs and a normal VB fiberglass rear spring that is not shortened.
I sure love this combo on my car!

You can stuff 275's all the way around but you won't be riding at stock height. The different springs you used were a good idea as well and your car looks great.

Thanks for the compliment! You really need to lower the car to get the smaller diameter tires to look right in the wheel wells. I am actually thinking of cutting another half coil off of the front springs because it still looks a little too high to me. I'll have that done by spring and I'll have the calipers painted red too, the wheel swap(and everything that goes with it) will finally be complete.
