Does anybody have a Protectoplate Decoder or know how to do it?
This is what my protectoplate has on it:
194371S115518
V0330CJL PID19
LRW105E R 113 1 D
I know the top right # is the VIN; the letter "D" in the lower right hand corner is proceeded by a tiny "Bowtie" emblem turned on it's side. I am trtying to figure out the name of the Cherolet dealership that sold this car new in 1971 at Lincoln, Nebraska. I'd appreciate any help ya'll can be!

Rick, I do not believe the "selling" dealer info is in that code. "V 0330 CJL" is your engine stamp info, "LRW105E" is your rear end code, "R" is Rochester Carb., "PID19" is your transmission info. Unsure about 113 1 D. Maybe date of manufacture of your car? 113th day of '71? D=April, maybe? What does your trim tag say as far as "body build date"???

From what I remember of the protecto-plate machines from when I worked at a Chevy dealer in the 70's it was like a credit card machine. There was a fixed plate in the machine that had the dealer name and dealer code. Then you put the customers plate in the machine, then put in the service order and ran the bar over everything. This put all the information printed on the service order. There was nothing on the customers protecto-plate that had the dealer information.

Rick
There were two dealerships in Lincoln.
Duteau Chevrolet. Downtown on 18th and "O" street. 402-474-2020.
Misle Chevrolet at 4949 "O". Misle had a large lot and probably sold your car. Misle was sold sometime ago.
It is now called Park Place Chevrolet. 402-434-5100.
Hope this helps.

Paul, you must be correct. it matches the trim tag build date of 23 April 1971, as long as it wasn't a leap year. Thanks for the info sir.
