I'm pissed at Autometer!
I called Autometer today to see if they carried a set of gauges for my '68. I need a 5in Speedo and 5in Tach, no big deal right? Well, I'm running a Vertex Magneto distributor which is mechanical and also have a T-56 6speed which is electronic. Therefore I need a mech. tach and elect. speedo. I talked to the rep and they don't even make a mech. tach anymore, I couldn't believe it!! :mad I mean the are the most popular gauge companyand they don't make it? And then they do not make a 5in electric speedo to 200mph.
Anyone know if they make a conversion kit for the tranny to work with my factory speedo??

No 5" electronic speedo? They must not know their own catalog
4490 5" 200 MPH Electric Speedometer
4490 5" 200 MPH Electric Speedometer
I didn't see it in the catalog either?

silver..hmm.. gotta be different eh ;)
Well, yes maybe they don't have them in silver. Why not just stick to the white stuff? From your post I assume you still need to buy the gauges and are set on the silver ones.
edit, silver ultra lite? I don't see those, just silver pro comp and pro stock

Re: I'm pissed at Autometer! (Corey 68)
confused, you have ultra lite gauges and you want silver for speedo and tach? The ultra lites models do have the 200MPH speedo, they're just white. To my knowledge there are no silver ultra-lites, they are all white faced.Am I wrong here?

okay, missed that post of yours..not confused anymore. Just wondering, why not do all the gauges w/ ultra-lites? You won't have trouble getting the speedo, w/ the silver ones you're just plain stuck. Just have to find a white faced 5" mech tacho . Did they ever make one?

Re: I'm pissed at Autometer! (Corey 68)
but why do you want silver ones if you already have white faced ultra-lites. The silver ones aren't available as a 5"speedo, the ultra lites that match the rest of your gauges are. The only 5"gauge in silver is the electric tacho.

Weird, what are all those magneto boys running? TenzoR :smash:
Stewart Warner has a 10.000rpm mech tacho but it doesn't look one bit like the autometers :(
82821-P Tachometer (mech) 0-10000 RPM 5" .5:1 Ratio/Adj Redline
They are black faced so it might look okay w/ a black pro comp speedo or something

They run about $800 for the distributor. My dad is an old racer so we have two of them on the self. :D I believe MSD now makes one that my be a little (not by much) cheaper. I had it in my '68 w/ the 327 and ran liked a scalded dog. I removed to to do a tune up on the poinrts and put in a Billet MSD high output dist. and blaster coil. The car felt like it lost 50hp, difference was night and day. Cool thing is they generate their own power. So if I had a remote starter I could do away with my battery, Starter, alternator, and coil. BIG weight savings.

Re: I'm pissed at Autometer! (Corey 68)
They don't make a true mechanical tach because instead they make a
Mechanical to Electronic interface..
You can buy the unit that takes the mechanical output and converts it to
electronic via reluctor I believe.. Check out thier catalog and see if they have
it under instalation accesories or senders..
