New brakes came in the mail!!
My new brakes showed up the other day. Thought I would post a pic for ya. They are off of a 2001 Z06 corvette. Got one rear rotor off so far and they fit great. Currently working on drilling off the rest. (Takes forever!) Then it is off to the machine shop to make the caliper brackets. Front rotors are 12.8" rears are 12".
Can't wait to get some new drill bits to get the old rotors off faster.
There is no way these are going to fit with the stock rims, so you know what that means. I get to buy new rims and tires. Added bonus.

Pertty cool!
So how are you going to mount the calipers? Does soomeone make adapters?
With those and a set of Z06 wheels

I second the Z06 wheels notion! That would look awesome.
It would be great if you could document everything you do to get them to fit so everyone could see how its done. I would love to have some better brakes!

Don't worry, I am going to take a lot of pictures and post everything here. As for the caliper brackets, I am going to make prototypes out of some sheet metal and have a buddy machine them out of some thick butt aluminum.

I think I would use a good quality steel instead of aluminum. The car is pretty heavy and even good aluminum might deform. When making the brackets to fit rear brakes on my Z (Datsun that is), I used a mild steel then powder coated. I just don't trust aluminum to do the job when so much is at stake.

looks very nice. I'm just now waiting for a price quote on brembo brakes, I'm gonna have 2-piece 14" with monoblock 6pots in front and 2-piece 13.1" rear with monoblock 4pots.
Keep us posted on this one. BTW there wwas pic of a 75 with chromed Z06 wheels on March issue of Vette, looked very

New wheels are going to be Boyd Coddington Nemesis. I am heading out to sea pretty soon and these are going to have to wait until I get home. Probably mid summer.

The wheels and brakes will look pretty darn good on your car, if I do say so myself. New brakes is a good way to justify new wheels too. :yesnod:

Ran into a small snag yesterday. Got one of the front rotors off finally and the center hole in the new rotors is about 1/32" (if that) too small. So that means make the hub slightly smaller, or make the hole in the rotor slightly larger. Not sure which would be better.
Hey, if it were easy, someone would have done it before.
Will keep you guys posted.

Very cool! It's fun watching others go off on a tangent. Thanks for sharing.
Sure wish I had a friend in a machine shop! Gotta get me one of those. Could be more important than a neighbor with a pickup.
