my lights aint woring on the Speedo cluster
Hi all...I have a 80 vette and the light on the speedo/tach 95% of the time doesnt come on...then one night ill turn the lights on and it will light up with the other guages then go right out...ANY IDEAS??

I had this problem as well. If you take the speedo and tach gage cluster out of the dash, there is a plastic plate on the back that contains quite a few wires. These wires supply to the lights in the gage cluster. My vette's plate was very dirty. I cleaned it up and soldered any connection that was not getting current. No problems since.
You can also purchase this plastic plate from several vendors. I'm not sure what the correct part description is though. :cheers:

I have the same problem. Makes it real hard to drive at night, maybe not hard, just a little more exciting.

Hey there...Im in Florida, The car was trucked down here by the lady i bought it from in 99 and sat until i asked her if i could buy it in november 02. Have you seen the car before? Im trying to fid out old owners have had no real luck with it. Thanks! :thumbs:

im not sure here she lived when she lived there...i bought it in Ft. Lauderdale. Im destined to never know i think..LOL :blueangel:

i have a similar problem with my '81.... no dash lights at all...... One night they came on.... stayed on for about 10 mins... then went off never as of yet to return.... Driving with a flashlight in one hand is no fun..... :banghead:

Well, I can tell you that I think I saw that car several years ago at a cruise in. It was in Jefferson City, MO. Back then there approximately 150 cars would turn out for this event each month from all around Missouri and surrounding states. That event was really cool back then. Other than seeing the car, I don't have any other information on it. I wish you luck!!
