Need advice-- rebuilding power steering cylinder
I am going to try to rebuild the slave cylinder on my power steering. I have the repair kit and it looks pretty straight forward. However, not being an expert, I can use all the help I can get. Does anyone have any helpful tips that could make this job easier and keep me from goofing up?
Also, how do I add a picture of my 1974 L82 roadster to my signature?
Thanks,
1974 L82 roadster.

Before you start, check to make sure that you have the right size hoses; the kit I got from one of the mail order gave me one wrong hose.
Easy job, actually. Make sure you do the final adjustment for centering before you hook up the steering linkage.

Re: Need advice-- rebuilding power steering cylinder (Schwee)
Ken,
I just sent you an eMail with two attachments. One is from the Chevrolet shop manual and the other is an exploded view showing the two different rod seal packages that were used in production. The latest seal package was only three parts compared to the earlier seal package which consisted of 5 parts. The new 3 piece design will install into the earlier cylinders without any problems.
I have just sent these two papers to Terry Rudy for posting on his http://www.corvettefaq.com websight. Terry is normally very fast in responding so they will probably be posted under Steering within a day. They should be under BOOSTER CYLINDER.

The only thing I have to add is that as long as you have the system apart, flush a quart of clean fluid through the pump and out the hoses. I had a lot of dirt and grit in there.
