ex '73 L82 4-spd owner, got a ? on another one....
i want to get another C3, '69-73, '73 being my fav year, however i drive on the highway a lot, which is why i sold my '73 in teh first place, 9mpg on a good day. It had 4.10 or 4.11's in it, i can't remember. I want another one, but i want to throw in a T-56 or ZF6 transmission, has anyone else done this? If so, how much for one of those transmissions and the labor? I would even settle for a 700R4 or a 4L60 automatic, but i'm a manual kinda guy. If i can't do this reliably at a good price, i'm going to go with another C4. Newbie to the board, nice to meet all of you!!! :seeya

Brandon,
A lot of people have done that and I am sure someone will jump in here with the details. What I think would be idea would be to get a GOOD C3 with a blown engine, then drop in a C4 power train, the L98 engine with its fuel injection, and its 4-speed automatic. My 73 L82 get about 13 mpg on the highway while my 90 L98 gets about 25 mpg (almost double :D ). Hard combo to beat for performance, realibliltiy, and economy.

I get about 15 MPG if I keep my foot out of it , after that forget it. My car is a 4-speed but I don't drive around with those big gears in the rear. Keep your 4-speed, and try a little more conservative rear gear. 3.08,3.56 are great for highway.

From my reading (I have has a 4 speed car in the past... would prefer 5/6 now...) You can drop a 5/6 speed in (with a little :smash:).
You might have to :smash: the tunnel and install an automatic (ie removable) crossmember...
