Default Timing chain cover question

Did a 70 LS-5 originally come with a chome or painted timing cover? Mine happened to have a chome cover but I suspect it had been changed at some point.

Thanks
Jim

I believe that they were Chevy Orange. Mine on my '68 BB was chrome as well, and I was told that it had been replaced.

I have ordered a new non chrome one from Zips to go on there. It is on back order and costs about $60. Seems expensive to me. Oh well.

Thanks
That's what I thought - Chevy orange - its actually a decent replacement, nice & thick but needs to be re-chromed. Instead I think I'll just blast it clean & paint.

It's nice having my buddies blasting cabinate on indefinate loan. :yesnod:
