Think I found a steal.. Your opinions please..
here is what I found from a friend... It's a 1971 Coupe. No Power anything.
Chasis completely restored.. I know the guy that did it. New Frame (he spent $1800), New Munci 4-sp, new rear end, new brakes. The chasis is completely restored. Also has new 3" exhaust. New cramic coated headers. The engine has Aluminum heads and roller rockers. The engine ate a carb stud and no longer runs. Unknown what is wrong with it.. I'll write off the block right now.
The body is fair.. It is 100% complete. Crack in the fender.. Not major.
The bad: Interior completely missing. Home made dash out of wood sports autometer gauges. Basically, dude ran out of $$ after chasis resto and did nothing with body or interrior..
He is taking $3k for it, and I bought it.. Seem like a good deal?

I did look it over pretty good. A good friend of mine built it ground up so I know there are no suprises.. I may have to convert it to auto, or at least tilt wheel. At 6'5" I couldn't comfortably work the clutch.. This is the first time I sat in one. Pretty cramped for me. Any ideas what a complete interrior is going to cost me??

My car came with a very rough interior and I spent about $3k to replace nearly 100% of the interior. I wish I had a picture of the interior before I started. However, I'll show ya what I've done so far. Good luck.

That's what I figure, $2-$3k.
All it has left is two seats in poor conition and door panels that are shot.
The dash was made out of a piece of plywood, yes a very rare and valuable option.
I think it's about time I bought a digital camera so I can post some pics.

I bought my interior parts from Al Knoch, and at a show price at a show...spent a grand on header/a-pillar pads, seat covers-comfort weave plastic, rugs, and door panels and a heavy repro brake console cover...
now that does not include dashpads, or console vinyl wrap for shift plate...
my car is a '72, make that round gauges early shark...not the plastic console later shark....that does make a huge differance IMO....

Good Deal. Your CHASIS and DRIVETRAIN having been completly re-done is half your battle. The interior will be fun to redo. Like MysterMachine said "get to work".

I'd say you did great. On the engine, you may get lucky, depending on how long it ran with the stud bouncing around on the piston. Most times it just destroys the piston and dings up the head a bit, but it could still be useable. With aluminum heads, the damage may be worse. Block's probably O.K.
On the interior, why not take this opportunity to put in late model seats? The stock seats s**k, and I think you get more legroom out of it as well. I'm 6'1" and fit fine, but mine's a 'vert, and they have more headroom. Look into the shorter column ('77?) as well.

Re: Think I found a steal.. Your opinions please.. (Wrencher)
I thought about the seats, but I am worried about headroom. If someone knows of a good seat that will not hurt legroom or headroom, I'd be interested. Are you talking about later Vette seats?
Is the 77 column a bolt on? I would definately be into a tilt wheel. The car was not built original and I don't plan to make it original.
On the engine, I'm not even sure it ate the carb stud. The stud broke off at the carb. That would leave a 3-3.5" stud with a wing nut that would have to somehow get passed the air cleaner, then make it's way to the engine. I was told it still runs, just very rough. It is possible something else went wrong, and they noticed the stud was busted when they popped the hood.. Wouldn't that be nice if a rocker backed off or something.. I'll pull a valve cover tonight. Wishfull thinking, but who knows.

I put C4 seats in mine and I love them...however, I'm only 6'0". My friend who is 6'4" hates it because his head hits the t-tops. If you are looking for an aftermarket seat you may want to consider the Corbeau A4, I looked at getting them and they looked very nice and didn't seem to be any higher than the stock seats.
