Q-JET GUYS, MISSING PULL CLIP ON NEEDLE
#3
Re: (MNJack)
It's the clip that holds the needle in place and raises it when the float drops
to allow fuel to enter the bowl.. I guess without this the pressure of the fuel has to push it up (I Guess) I just started working on the Q-Jet myself so I am still learning. I have discovered that it's probably better to do it yourself (or with the help of lars) because most modern day mechanics really don't get IT...

 BTW there is nothing worse than taking it in to be worked on and being told that (THE CAR RUNS GREAT NOW) only to drive it and it does the same old crapp it did when I brought it in...

I think you are correct in that the fuel pressure is going to push the needle off the seat. What effect does it have to not have the clip? I dunno. I don't think it really matters, though.
Get a clip and put it on.

Logic tells me that when the float is in the down position and there is no fuel pressure to push the needle up that you would have all kinds of inconsistantsies in the float bowl. And would that tend to heat the fuel in the bowl??????

71DropTop,
Go to the local parts store and buy a new needle and seat, that little clip should be included.
I don't know if you can by only the clip, check with a GM dealer they might be able to help you.
You need this clip and it has to be installed properly to the float....

If your talking about the small clip on top of the needle valve than I can send you one for free if you e mail me your address. I bought a pos donar carb for $20. at the ncrs show in Jan. to obtain a power piston to replace in my carb just for that. So I have some spare parts if anyone needs.

Found a clip.. Can you believe I found it at a place that only works on ford model A's and T's  but he had a couple Q-Jets doners in the back so we robbed it..... so now we will see if there is a difference
BTW he had a bunch of old corvette fuel injections and intakes from the 60's in the back that he said were going to the dump... :D

Hey if there's some aluminum corvette intake stuff back in there, you may want to grab it (as long as it's in good shape). I'm sure some of us on here maybe interested in some of it and if it's free you can make a few bucks, just post the numbers of the intakes that you get.
