Default Guages go dead when I turn headlights on??

I have an 81 corvette with im sure a whole lot of miles on it..the center guages where oil,temp & gas are work fine but when you turn the lights on they go dead..like you turned the car off..alternator is charging fine & cant figure out what this might could be..anyone ever had this happen or have any kind of clue?

you need to replace your circuit board that's behind your center cluster :thumbs:

before you replace the board clean and inspect the connections

On a 79 that I used to have I had a similar problem
and it was just that the plug behind the speedo wasn't pluged in properly

Try turning up and down the dash light brightness if the guages come back at full off and go dead lights full on you have a bad ground on the back board a quick fix is to take one of the clock screws and a wire to ground till you buy a new board or can find the gap and solder it back this will get you by good luck

I say you have a bad ground connection at the gauge console. Its an easy inexpensive fix. If you reground and it still does it then try that circut board as mentioned above.
