banged 2nd hard...heard a clunk at the rear of the car...
banged 2nd gear HARD...squawked the tires...rear end slipped sideways just a little...man i love to do that sometimes!
did it the other day and heard a clunk...
not the typical sound of something breaking...
more like the sound of rolling over a speed bump with weak springs and the bump stop hitting the frame kinda sound ...(BTW...i dont have a weak spring)
is this normal on a hard shift? ive never heard it before...
could have been a chunk of asphalt for all i know...

Gary,
You possibly need a new bushing between the differential and the frame crossmember. It's about $20 and fairly simple to replace, assuming the bolt hasn't rusted beyond removal. The next time you're under the vette, look at the bracket that supports the diff. Follow that forward to where it bolts to the crossmember and inspect that bushing, it's probably rotting away. I had the same problem and found my bushing to be almost gone. I would only hear the clunk occasionally, so it took awhile to track down the origin. Good luck.

Sounds like that could be the problem. While your down there make sure that you check the metal mount (the side that is part of the frame). I dosent sound like you broke that though because it happened to me and it sounded worse than you described.
