Default What is this plate/part??

71 350 small block -- Between the carburetor and the manifold is a thin 9x10 inch aluminum plate. On the front of the plate, there is stamped the "firing order" and this number: 3969837. Is this a factory installed part? What does this number mean?

Thanks

Sounds like an aftermarket carb heat shield to me. Not factory.

GM did make and install a heat shield like your are describing. I believe that only Ca cars got this shield, but anyone having purculation of the gas trouble, could order one from your local dealer. Thad

The car was bought new in Lincoln, Nebraska. The thing looks ugly and I want to get rid of it! Thanks for the input.
