Default So my Sister bought a 5 speed '95 Eclipse GSX...

And now i want one! I know how ricers get started now. I believe that stock little 4cyl would give a LT1 (93-97) Camaro a good run! its probably not faster, but defineatly pulls like one. She bought it for a little over 9K but it is immaculate. it just had all the major service done on it, and has a brand new turbo, so it should be very reliable. Very  little cars. Im thinking i may try and sell my blazer to get a 95-99 Eagle Talon TSi in the -not to far future- The one thing that is driving me nuts about her new car is how fun that turbo is. it driving me nuts because i want my turbo to be installed already! :( oh well. by next summer it should be. Too bad an AWD system for the vette would cost more than its worth.

can you drop the clutch at 7000RPM and not spin em? i did that in the eclipse and it barked all four tires, threw me back in the seat, and launched like it had 14" wide slicks and 500hp. It did realize it didnt and bogged down a little, but it was still cool.

i would just want a talon for a DD, not to blow tooooo much money on :D probably just upgrade the turbo to a T3/T4 and maybe mild suspension mods.

No Ben, It won't. :D

The talon will jump off the line but the Hp and torque advantage of the LT1 will QUICKLy reel it back.

Oh my god. I can't believe someone is goin' for the rice. Ya right, I had a 86 300zx that cost me a mere $3K and more than paid for itself as a good driver. But I use to drive that baby on 465 around Indy to work and always admired a beautiful 1980 about every morning on 465. Well, some 3 years later, I finally got a great vette to build. Now that I got a vette I'll never go back to rice.

Beware the crankwalk with the manual transmission turbo second generation DSMs. Big big problem.

 You guys are crazy. :smash: im not comparing the Mitsu to the 'Vette. Duh! if i liked it more i would already have one in the vettes place. I was more comparing it to my 94 S-10 blazer.

which would you rather drive (for fun, not purpose :D) an all wheel drive 7500rpm 220hp turbo 5 speed weighing in arround 3000 lbs
or
a 4500rpm 195 hp, 4000 lb. 4 door that feels like 2 wheel driving is quite capable.

i on the way home from work today i took a turn on the highway at 90 in the eclipse. the max i can take it at is 60 in the blazer.

the scary part is that i want to try and get 7000 RPM redline in the vette with a T-66 or T-76. im afraid that when the boost kicks in it may just start frying the rear tires! sweeeeeeeeeeet.

seriously though its just a good driver. the only reason i want one is because i miss owning a car. my blazer is no fun in the twisties, and is basically boring me. thats all. its no vette. :flag

i think it depends on the LT1. i had a buddy with a 94 Z28 with exaust, and a cold air intake (good for 20-30 high end hp at the crank) he ran a best of 15.2, and he was a good racer. i cant tell you how many DSMs i saw that day (highschool drags) that only had an upgraded turbo that were dipping into 13s. i even knew a guy running 10s in a 91 Talon. yea the motor poped but he had a full season on it and he had done anything to beef up the internals.

ive driven a 94 TSi, the diffrence between it and the GSX are amazing. like night and day. the TSi would have barely hung with my 85 trans am. :U

I know what you mean, my friend's Supra Turbo is a fun car to drive too, it pulls pretty hard when the turbo spins up but it NOTHING like 4 bbl power. Besides, he can't spin the tires without holding the brake!

I have much much respect for the DSM's they blow my mind with the power potential. They are so easily accessable for parts, compared to the real import power like the RB26dett "Skyline" or th 2jz "Supra". These little cars can give some amazing power. A friend of mine here in washington is pushing I believe close to 600 hp and ran a 10.4 last sunday in his 91 tsi. The craziest part is you never hear it comming "untill they get on the gas and that annoying BEE wakes up in the muffler :) But on a serious note, by the sound of them you would never expect the power they produce, or how tame they are on the street. Thats why drastic measures must be taken, and show that if you combined the technology of the damm imports and mated them with the big cubic inches we have to offer. Then once again we can prove there is no replacement for displacment.

I had Mitsu Conquest TSI back in the day, 1988 before ricers were known as "ricers". That car was like no other on top end when it got the RPM's up. It was black with black leather interior. Man I miss that car.

I know...my old, tired L48 couldn't spin 'em either. Then I dropped the ZZ4 in and she spins very easily now. From a rolling start it'll spin them a little and if I do a small "launch" froma mild brake stand it'll leave a nice black patch! :blueangel:

Your turbo is gonna be out of control I'm sure! :reddevil

There's one issue that's not being addressed: longevity. Those little Mitsu's are a blast to drive. But don't plan on having it in your old age! Think about it: when was the last time you saw an '88 Conquest? They were as common as dirt down here. And now they're nonexistant. Hmmm...

We have a couple that race at our local track and they are pretty impressive. They are well into the 12's and are generally the faster of the import crew that race out there. It is always suprising when you have one that gets you off the line and you aren't pulling them in like you thought you would.

They are also not very reliable. They tend to break in other areas excluding the crankwalk. Also, go into google and type in "crankwalk." It will just pour out a ton of results for DSMs.
