FYI. My GM/Lars Rebuilt 1103291 Distrib.
Here are two pics of my #1103291 8K12 (1979 L-82, October 12, 1978) rebuilt distributor with GM and Lars parts. Those weights look vastly different from stock and Lars has commented on the configuration before here and in his very nicely worded literature. I look forward to trying out this unit. I may have the weight springs upside down so I would invite comments on that. Or any other comments for that matter.
This is the new #1958599 GM gear installed, right side up. Lars recommends between .002 and .007" endplay and provides shims. My initial with the distrib was much more than that. It is now set at .005". And that dimple on the gear points in the direction of the rotor tip.

Looks good Paul - and I wonder if ANY of us has EVER shimmed the distributor
gear to .005 !! (Lars excluded). Regarding nthe springs - I can't get at mine
to check the orientation. I'd say that if they aren't dragging on the surface of
the weights - you're OK.
ps - Does Lars 'sign' his vacuum modulators - or did you put that on there ?

Dave,
They are not touching anything but I was thinking it might be wise to flip them over. There is lots of room under the rotor. And no, Lars does not have a signature series like Ford. I just have too many parts and like to label them.

I may have missed something but it is my understanding that this is the correct configuration.
