Default Tail Lights

I decided some time ago to change the tail lights on my 82. I decided on converting over to standard 4 inch truck trailer lights. For those not familiar they are round lights that are held in by a rubber grommet. Most use a common plug so they can be easily swapped in and out. I have several sets so I can change the color or the type (LED or incandescent) with or without reflectors in about ten minutes. They are wired so that I can have backup lights or not.

Those shown are silver when off but when lit up are bright red (LED). They are a bit ricey but they do get noticed. Hopefully that'll keep those SUVs from trying to park their front bumper in my gas tank. :D

wow, that's interesting...I think I like it! How much do lights like that cost? Did you drill holes to mount or does the grommt stick the in? I've got a finicky tail light right now and if it's not too expensive I wouldn't mind going this route  Hope you don't mind copycats!

oops, noticed you said the grommet holds it in.

The grommet is designed to fit a 4+ inch hole. I riveted a little
piece of round tube for the grommet to fit into. The lights just push
into the grommet. If you want I can get a picture.

The silver lights are made by American Super Light. I bought them
through buytruckstuff.com. 4 lights and grommets for $89.00
(ASL-40210RC-4)

If you want to go red color and non LED then you can the lights for
much less. A red incandescent at delCity.net goes for about $2.60
per light. By the way their grommets fit my bumper the best.
Truck-Lite, Grote, Peterson,.... all make 4 inch round lights in LED and incandescent. You will need a three way pigtail that plugs into the lights.

Copycat all you want. If I had to pay for half the ideas I stole off
this forum I'd never get out of debt. :jester
