Headers arrived today. Suggestions?
Brown delivered my Dynomax headers today. Any suggestions prior to installation will be appreciated. The 72 has A/C, PS, & PB. Thanks, John

Re: Headers arrived today. Suggestions? (Aaron-74)
Yeah, there is DEFINITELY one good idea:
Wrap the headers with Thermotec-heat insulation tape, if you do not want to decompensate the better flow of the headers by warmer intake air caused by higher underhood temperatures. I did not believe that the warmer air makes such a difference until I drove my car in the winter... Oh boy! Feels like some 30hp more compared to summer.
So I wrapped mine and now the car runs great in the summer, too.
After you have wraped the headers, paint them with exhaust paint to prevent water to soak in the wrap and thus corrosion problems. And do wear gloves and a disposable work suit if you do not want to sratch yourself for the next couple of days.
BTW... the lower header temperature also greatly helps your starter/solenoid, idler-arm, steering-gear (hot grease will become fluent resulting in leaks), wiring and any rubber part in the engine compartement.

match the gasket to the header flange...check that all the bolt holes line up with the gasket, if not drill out the holed......use a traight edge and check for air gaps on the sealing surfaces of the header tubes....if air gaps, use a good file to true the sealing surfaces.

All good advise especially the install from the bottom. Mine just slipped right in from the bottom. Did you get the alternator bracket? I got mine from the local speed shop. Check your headder warranty because some manufactures won't honor warranty repairs is you use thermal wrap. I agree with some sort of locking devise for the bolts. I drilled the heads of my bolts and safety wired them. Get good quality gaskets also, it makes a big difference.

I am just getting the AC bracket today. Do you mean I also need an alternator bracket as well? :skep:

I did not need a new one with my stock alt bracket that mounts flat to the head face.
Here is a link to what it looks like:
Seems ecklers has sort of path block software.

I was able to install the pass side header from the top. (no A/C :D )
On the driver side, I went from underneath. I removed the dipstick tube to make things easy.
Throw the gaskets that came with the headers right into the garbage. Dont even take the time to remove them from their plastic wrap. Get rid of them.
Take my word for it...they will blow out quickly. Dont ask how I know :banghead:

I think they changed it in 72. Got to Ecklers website and look under alt's and you will see a few diff lower mounts, the one I have bolts flat to the head.
They are blocking my link I posted earlier so you have to go there yourself.

Are you sure?????  I believe that the 72 350's alternator is bolted to the left hand exhaust manifold. If it wasn't then that is the year GM changed it. I know my 71 was.

Let us know how they fit. I'm thinking of going to the dynomax also.
If my hookers will go in there those should too. You might have to jack it up high to get them in from the bottom. A lift would be nice!
