Distrib Gear. Wear. Opinions on this One.
I am just completing a rebuild of a #1103291 1979 L-82 distrib for a spring installation with a Lars kit. Last possible item to replace is the bottom gear for wear. How does this one look?

looks good to me. Signs to watch for are when the teeth are tapered in the middle.
I have seen some that had an hour glass shape to each tooth when viewed from that same angle you showed.

I am going to take this post out of circulation. Our parts people just 'phoned me to say that I can get a "gear bebuild" kit for $12.00. I said yes and will have it tomorrow. For that price I will go with the new just to be sure. Sorry to bother everyone! I will post pics of the end result of the rebuild including Lars' weights.

Whooaaa... I have a one-word answer to your question: "Backwards"
...the gear end is supposed to go up against the housing and the bottom part mates with the oil pump shaft...the way you've got it assembled should not install. Am I missing something?
Yea...should have read farther down the list of posts.... good catch guys

Paul,
Don't let the miss's catch you with her bath towel wrapped around your vette parts. She will kick you out into the nearest snow bank..... :smash:

Well, that's not a towel but a soft rag. But she did catch me with an intake manifold in the oven. Heck, the paint can said heat at 200F for 30 minutes to cure....A Guy has to do what the instructions say.
