How many Q-Jets did GM produce?
I'm figuring about eleventy billion or so. So I go down to the local Pep Boys and ask for a carb to intake gasket. The "counter person" looks for about 5 minutes and finally says "We don't even have it in the computer". So I went to my local Parts Plus store that has "real" car guys and ask for the same part. He walks in the back and picks it up off the shelf and says "Yeah, here it is". Now here's my next question. Why do I continue to waste my time at Pep Boys.

Only you would know that answer. Pep Boys has oil and filters and rugs and things that look like rice parts, neon lights and crap. The only parts they have are guaranteed to fail at the very worse time that can be, like when you in a hurry to go somewhere or it's rain like all hell and your stuck on the NJ turnpike at rush hour and it's 101 in the shade.

1. Eleventy billion is pretty close to the correct answer, but even GM hasnt put one on a new car during the lifetime of a Pep Boys counterperson and they have never appeared on a Japanese import, so why would they even be "in the computer" ??? I have had good luck at Napa with that kind of stuff. They actually have an illustrated catalog that shows all the different patterns of carb gaskets with applications. It also helps that the counterguy owns a 69 Caddy! :) MJ
Napa also makes a lot of stuff that the vette specialty catalog guys sell for twice as much. Comes in an Echlin box with the vendors sticker taped over the part# MJ

It's a trick question you dummies. The answer is "none"
Quadrajets were built by Rochester and Carter, not GM.
Dummies.
(yeah, I know GM owns/owned Rochester, yada, yada).

RE: Baseplate gaskets it is IMPERITIVE! that you get the right one for that carb. We rebuild Q-Jets two to three a day at work and half of the kits we get have the wrong gasket. I stock a wider variety of gaskets for the baseplate than I do carb kits. :smash:
That carb was used on all v8 (or darn near) GM products including Pontiac, Olds, Chev etc. Not to mention trucks from 1/2 ton two and four wheel drive all the way up to the P-Series chassis that motorhomes ride on.
so yea they made a few! :lurk:
