OK, I'm looking at a '68 roadster. What's it worth?
'68 roadster. Looks to be about 3/4 of the way through a typical amateur restoration. Original 327 (according to the for-sale sign), 4-speed. New dark metallic green paint (BRG???), not original color, over poor-to-average bodywork. Has poorly-fitting aftermarket L88 hood. New seats, dash, door panels, carpet, soft top. No hardtop. Interior and top are '68 "tobacco" color. Wheels are like-new rallys. Bumpers are new or restored. Rocker panels are missing, and non-factory black sidepipes are installed. All exterior trim is present and accounted for. Some interior pieces missing (steering column trim, windshield trim, etc.) One window is either MIA or has a broken regulator. No radio, either removed or possibly a radio-delete car; no aerial. Bad tires. No idea about mileage, condition of engine, trans, or diff. Assume all are average. Couldn't talk to the seller or look under the hood.
Whatcha think?

$5268.41 and not a penny more. :jester
Seriously, lots depends on the usual stuff, frame condition, mechanicals, etc. If all the mechanicals are restored and there's a small amount of cosmetics and trim, upwards to maybe $8k? Sounds like it still needs some TLC.

I'm surprised, I always thought the older C3 verts were BIG money, like $15K or more even in avg condition. If I would have found one for under $8K in the condition you have described I'd jump on it.
Man, it stinks to find out you got suckered :cuss

When trying to figure out what a 68 is worth you should factor in alot of parts are unique to that year ONLY and maybe expensive and a PITA to find. From your brief description and some pieces missing i would say anywhere in the 5-7 K range.JMHO...THANKS JERRY :seeya

Sounds like some work is needed. But regarding parts, all '68 parts are out there and most of us who own one can direct you if needed. The big question is do you want an NCRS ride or just a nice cruiser that will turn heads? That will dictate what you spend on parts.

When i replied on finding parts i am assuming a original NCRS resto is what he will be doing. If that is the case, interior pieces on that car are for that car,and that car only.I did not say you cannot find them, what i said is they will not come cheaply......JERRY :yesnod:

Parts are out there, you just have to find them. When I did the resto on my 68, I needed both inner fenders, and they are 68 only. I thought good luck findiing a set...found a place that had nos for 400 each, i passed, then found a pair used in Ca. 250 including shipping. They were near mint. You just have to look.

What is he asking for the car?
I'll summarize my typical spiel: what it's worth, what he'll take and what you'll pay are three totally different numbers, and can be as much as $10K different. The key is to find out three things:
1)Where he has advertised the car
2)If that market is Corvette crazy or anti-C3Corvette (like Seattle)
3)How desperately he wants to sell
What I've found is that while many people are desperate to sell, they advertise in a tiny newspaper or just stick a for sale sign on it in an area that either doesn't want C3s or can't afford it. In this case, you should be able to walk away with a non-running project for about $3K. If all the above are opposite, you'll wind-up finding out that he won't take under $7K or something (probably higher.) It sounds like that car would sell for about $7k-8K on ebay, but that's not what you should base your offer on.

Or, you can save yourself the time and future expense, and pick up a nicely restored '68 at Carlisle. There was one a few years back, #'s small block coupe going for about $15K. Frame-off amateur restoration, looked very good.
Unless he gives the car to you, sounds like you're going to have at least $10K into it to do the job right, not to mention all your hours. Sad to say, but sounds like this car is going to stay a trailer park queen unless somebody decides to salvage it based on good will towards Chevrolet.

Yes, 68 parts are unique but attainable. When looking for my a/c wiperswitch bezel, ductwork with deflector, I got price quotes from around $800-$1000 :crazy:for the set-up. I just kept pecking away and finally found the parts at a more reasonable price. I wound up getting what I needed for about $145 :hurray:
Now, Im looking for that "68"single bellows rubber shift boot. Anybody got one lying around?
