Who can bead blast my intake manifold?
I need a referral to a vendor that can bead blast my aluminum intake manifold. 35 years of use and a silver paint job makes it look terrible.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Who can bead blast my intake manifold? (hudman)
Any large shop or machine shop should be able to bead blast a intake. The first clean up should come with old #6 glass beads followed by a finish pass with new #6 glass beads. Old beads make the finish dull but new beads make it shiny just like new. I also give my intake a light clear coating afterwards.
Be very careful with clean up afterwards. Any beads left with destroy the motor. Remove the metal shield if there is one under the plenum.
An old intake can be made to look new is not pitted too badly.

Norval,
Excellent advice! Check out these colonies of glass beads under the oil splash cover. Not a nice addition to add to an engine.
Pic is not coming up.

Looks OK now.

I have to disagree with the clear coat though. IMHO in many, but not all cases, clear coat will yellow with time and heat.

You are probably right about the yellowing of the clear coat over time. My intake came off at least once every 2 years and sometimes at least once a year. It was nothing for me to clean it up. I have a glass bead cabinet and like freshening things up.
Since mine was never on long and I never had a problem with spilled gas you are right.

78Vette-SA is absolutely right. I have tried various Hi-temp paints and clear coats and all yellow after time. The temp fix was a dremel, 12" flex wand and 4 wire wheels but that was a PITA. I eventually spent $140 and my polished Performer intake is stunninly beautiful, never requires polishing as I had thought and is maintenance free. Just ran a clean cloth over it last month, and I've had it on the car 14 months and it sparkles and draws many compliments. My .02 ditch the intake or E-Bay it and fork up the $140 via SUMMIT.

Re: Who can bead blast my intake manifold? (hudman)
Hudman - If it were me, I would have it coated by Airborn Coatings in Charlotte (a Jethot competitor). Since it is Aluminum and the coating is meant to look like polished Aluminum and resists heat, it would be a win/win. If I need to take mine off, I will have mine done. Just make sure when you get it back that there are no beads (creamic in this case) anywhere inside before reassembly as advised above.

Aluminum cleans up nice without a whole lot of effort. How about trying a wire wheel on a drill and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised.
