Default what to use to mount camera in car

i've been watching some cool incar videos lately and i'm wondering how to mount cameras inside a C3.i've tried it before by mounting the camera on a tripod and squeezing against the roof ,but it moved too much.
i dont want to install a rollbar either.

Check with Scott at the C3 Shark Tank. He has an aluminum bar that mounts at about shoulder level just behind the seats. The bar runs horizontal and is a nice setup. I'll see if I can find his link. He installed one in his '81.

Ted- thanks! Actually the camera mount itself is aluminum, the bar is cold rolled steel and powdercoated.

java- Unfortunately I don't have them for your 68, but Dan is working on the drawings I believe. Right now they are 74-77 and 78-82 only.

Here's a shot of the camera mounted.

Well I'm really going to pee in your cornflakes I guess ;) :jester It's 130 for just the camera mount itself, no bar included. The bar is actually a harness bar so you can install 5 point seatbelts, that is $400. I don't set the prices, I just sell'em. There's a bit more to these than "just a bar" too.

Here's the install of a Harness Bar

When you make yours up let us see what you come up with, always interested to see new ideas.

edit: Forgot to add, you should check the prices on C4 and C5 camera mount systems and harness bars, the C3 ones are in the ballpark and from what I have seen far better quality.

Bubba would steal his momma's shower curtain rod and pop it in the vette! When he finishes driving, he takes it out and goes for a shower!!

He might also try one of those chin-up bars. :) MJ

I can't justify the Harness bar with my spectaluar horsepower numbers, but I am thinking of using a small tripod that is tied off to the back somhow (with my 78 there is lots of room). Not sure. I was planning on figgureing it out in the spring. (when ever that is)

I know you probably sont set the prices, but im just saying, for 530 american dollars(like 900 canadian) i could get somebody t odo a custom job for cheaper or even beter like was said before use a shower rod!!! it would work and then with some duct tape you could you could attach a broken tripod.

If you go to this site you can se how this C5 guy made himself one for less than $30. It shouldnt be that hard to do the same with a C3. Im gonna look into it when i get home, maybe i might even try it. ;)

I used a surveilance camera mount on one of our club outings. Foudn one four around $30 which suctions to the window. It never budged. The videos came out really well, other than it was raining and I had to manually focus because the camera would focus on the rain. If you have a camera with a remote you can turn it on or off from the drivers seat easily. :chevy

I agree 530 bux sounds like a "corvette price" and not a "regular car" price. I mean comon its a freaking bar with a camera attatched.

I think that if someone didnt' have 500 for a camera mount for a 200 dollar camera, they could make one that would work just as well.

Obviously its a nice bar and its only worth what people pay for it. So if you sold them for that price then its worth the price. Im just poor

I must say there is a bit of misunderstanding about the Shark Bar harness bar. The Shark Bar was not designed (first) as a Camera mount. It is designed to keep occupants in place during severe cornering as in an autocross. Those who autocross know exactly what I mean. The camera mount was built to stand the rigors of autocross. Most of what I have read for mounting a camera would probably work fine if you’re traveling down the road, but probably not in an autocross or severe driving condition.

Exactly what Dan just said. The main purpose is not a camera mount system, it just happens that you can add a camera mount to it. For those that think it's expensive go look at C4 and C5 harness bars and camera mounts. I'm not debating that it isn't an expensive item, but then again look at what it's mainly used for, if all you want to do is mount a cheap camera in your car it's probably not an item you should buy.

I jsut installed Dan's Sharkbar II with a billet camera mount today. I just finished cleaning up and shot a few pics. Dan was accomodating enough to make it out of chromoly for me as well as some custom harness mounts. I'm very impressed. I generally make everything myself, and am comfortable with a TIG welder and chromoly, but it was worth it to me. Dan has a very nice product on the Sharkbar and there is alot of time spent in designing it, more than I expected actually. If you're looking for a non-intrusive harness bar and camera mount, I'd recommend it.
